These guys just keep dissapointing me. The debut was very good, Performance & Cocktails was good, but all the albums after that have been pretty dire IMO. After P&C Maybe Tomorrow is the only song I can say I've actually liked.
So this new album hasn't won me back. But I felt the urge to pull out Word Gets around again.

as great as the first couple albums are...they are just generic rock music, to me. I mean, great songs, nothing wrong with them, and some of my favorite phonics tunes are from the first couple records...
but the last 3 albums have been so interesting, and well written at the same time...so....

Thats just me though.
You might've listened to the last three more than me, I actually just own the first two. But I've listened to their other records, including the new one, and I don't feel inclined to buy any of them.
The great thing about the first record was all the stories, like the Local Boy in the Photograph and Traffic. Character-based songs which weren't around that much around back in 98. Not in my musical universe at least. So it was a bit refreshing to have those kinds of songs come from Britain when I was used to things like Oasis.

I listened to it this morning. I'm not a huge fan, I liked bartender and the thief, that's about it. I was surprised that I liked this album so much. Pretty good.

Word Gets Around was good as was Performance & Cocktails. JEEP has maybe 2 or 3 good songs. Since then, its all been downhill for this guys to me. Its a shame, cause Kelly Jones has a great voice, but the songwriting seems so generic.

Hmm. Feel the complete opposite, word gets around is generic rock music and his voice isnt matured enough.
JEEP, gotta go ther eto comebac,k, language violence..., pull the pin...
seem mature to me, and his voice is settled in and more natural, sounds great.
