Time to get rid of that subhead under sports. The Yankees are no longer what they once were and don't deserve to be singled out. They just don't matter as much anymore.

You could argue that the NE Patriots are the most hated team in sports now. Speaking as a Pats fan, I can't tell you how many times other NFL fans express their hatred (or is it boredom?) of Belichick and Co.

Yanks aren't so special anymore. There's a matter of pride some Yanks fans take in having so many other baseball fans hate their club. Frankly, the Yanks fans don't deserve that distinction because their team isn't all that special.

Let's put it to a poll:

QUESTION: Should the board get rid of the sports subhead: "Discuss your hatred for the Yankees here?"
Yes, the Yanks are no longer good enough to be singled out as such a hated team.
No, the Yanks are still the most hated franchise in sports.

Respecting that Green Habit won't change the subhead, I still assert a poll should be posted.

Philly doesn't matter. They haven't won a major sports championship since 1983.

i think it should be changed to some joke about how no one gives a shit about hockey. i don't have a good example but i'm sure someone can come up with something.

I don't think that any person following all sports could ever argue that the Patriots are more hated than the Yankees. I know that Boston fans would love to think that others outside of the New England area have a special infatuation with all things Red Sox and Patriots (and ESPN has only fueled this feeling), but in reality comparing dislike attributed to an NFL team solely because of success v. a MLB team where dislike or hatred is attributed to things beyond success (read: money) is apples to oranges. It's really not solely that that Yankees are successful and have been over such a long period of time. Rather, it's things like the glorification of the team by others that makes them hated.

A better comparison would be Duke basketball or Notre Dame football. These two teams, along with the Yankees (and not the Patriots), are very polarizing.

Then again, maybe things are changing. Who can forget all the good will directed towards the Bronx once they signed Clemens? And what about all the love A-Rod receives from the great fans of Boston and Toronto?

Face it, the Yanks haven't won the World Series in a long time, yet the "Yankees Sucks" chants are still heard all over. Something tells me that as long as they have the insane payroll and players people love to hate (Jeter, A-Rod, Clemens, etc.) people will dislike them.

As for the Patriots, any animosity towards them was the result of the natural dislike people have for repeat championship teams. That all went out the window once Brady started throwing all those interceptions in the playoffs.
