I am trying to install Word 2002, is this too old of a version to be run on Windows fucking pain in the ass Vista? I tried to install in compatibility mode, but my computer keeps telling me it cannot find a supported product, even when I tell it where it is. And yes, i have the correct product code.
Anyone have any ideas?

I'm running Word 2002 with Vista Home Premium and there seems to have been no problems. I just installed it as normal and that was that. Sorry that really is not much help to you !

if i call tech support, that is how long i'll probably be on hold, so yeah, pencil me in for Aug 2008.

This seems like the place...
I shut down last night after a windows update prompted for a restart (I figured a restart was unnecessary as I was going to sleep) and this morning I was greeted with the following error message: "BootMgr missing" "Press ctrl alt del to restart" or some approximation thereof. I've had my machine for about a month so I doubt I have serious hardware errors popping up at this point, and everyone I've talked to thinks this is probably a software issue. The only problem is, my boot disks are back at school, about 200 miles from here. Does anyone have any suggestions? Do I have the problem all wrong and its not just a vista thing?

Definitely a Vista problem. I'm not sure how the Vista kernel is bootstrapped, but there's obviously something going on with that.
This is why I never install Windows updates.
Luckily my friend had an install disk for the same version of Vista, so I'm ok now. Best Buy is a bunch of cheap bastards, they don't have their own disk lying around.
Will windows get pissed at me if I turn off auto update? Will Bill Gates show up at my house, punch me in the face, and steal my computer?

They can't do anything to you for turning off auto-updates. It's your computer. If you write software, you actually HAVE to turn off auto-updates so you have a controlled environment.
