With all this talk about VH-1 being "the channel of the summer" let's not forget about our man, Mystery, and his pals Matador and J-Dog. This show is HIGHLY entertaining and I don't plan to miss a single episode. I'm not sure who I'm rooting for at this point...the 45-year old virgin, or the heavyset guy from Bothell, WA.

I have a number of points to make about this show...please chime in accordingly:

*Apparently this guy "Mystery" has a very successful track record, so you've got to give him his due. It sounds like he consistently pulls tons of hot chicks.

*Where I come from (normal bars & neighborhoods in the Seattle area), wearing a fur hat into a club and calling yourself "J-Dog" would probably do nothing more than get yourself pointed and laughed at.

*On the first episode the contestants went into the bar to try their skills, and failed miserably. When the three amigos went in to "show them how it's done" it was a couple hours later...thus, the girls inside were all a couple hours drunker. So, needless to say I've figured out the "Mystery" method: Show up to the bar late and find the drunkest chicks you can.

*The funniest part of the show are the descriptions of the contestants. For example, on a show like The Bachelor, a contestant would be described as "Lisa, 26, Alabama, Marketing Coordinator" whereas in this show it's "Alvaro, 25, Florida, Paralyzed With Fear." Priceless.

*Finally, they claim that when these guys go hit on chicks throughout the show, there are NO ACTORS present. Well, don't you need people's permission to use them on a TV show like this? For example, later in the season when they actually DO starting getting with chicks, suddenly we're supposed to believe that all the girls are cool with this being on TV? I'm not sold and I think they've got to have at least a few plants out there.

I guess what I'm saying is that this schtick might work in Austin, TX... but I'm not so sure it would fly in Seattle.

you should read the book "the game: penetrating the secret society of pickup artists" then you might be a little better suited to talk about this. i haven't seen the show yet, but the book is interesting... not that well written but its entertaining.

anyway, i gotta see the show but at the moment don't have any tv, so eventually i will

A friend of mine actually has the book. He seems to think it's going to work. I'm sure it's got some good tips, but for crying out loud these guys go out wearing makeup, fur hats, blue streaks in their hair, aviation goggles and fruity leather jackets. I don't understand how anyone in their right mind can take them seriously. Just goes to prove how easy it really is to pick up a chick if you actually have half a brain.

But again...not to be a hater. I'm sure these guys practice what they preach and do it well. I just can't believe girls go for these douchebags.

two words of wisdom:

girls love douche bags

and

those who succeed are the ones who are stupid enough to think they can

Um, that Joe guy IS gay. He just likes to kiss girls. I always call him "the gay one".

I saw this the other day and the host dude and his 2 side dudes look like posers. They would probably get laughed at in an actual club.

Completely random, but I was in Vegas over the weekend and I ran into Spoon, the first guy who got kicked off. I guess he hangs out with Mystery and stuff, and got hypnotized to help his anxiety problems.

Awesome. That guy needed some serious help.

I've got to say, I loved this show. In terms of reality TV that was actually helpful to people, this is right up there with The Biggest Loser, so I approve.

He also mentioned that the first couple shows got 2.5 million viewers or so, but after that, it fell off because they said the characters weren't that interesting. They probably won't do a second season because of it.

Some of the girls at my work read the Mystery book and said it's something every guy needs to read.
