i'd like to know how many of us here are the real die-hard collectors, as opposed to the people who just buy the official studio releases and such... i, for one, have definitely got the collecting-bug. it drives everyone around me nuts but they probably think it's kinda cute too...
now...
DO ANY OF THE NEXT POINTS APPLY TO YOU?
* you spend absolutely offensive amounts of money on this band. * you buy stuff because you simply didn't have it yet - or you bought a second copy just to be safe - or even a third or fourth for reasons you can't even justify. * your spouse has repeatedly attempted to get you on Dr. Phil. * you pick up some rare vinyl without worrying or even caring about just how exactly you're going to pay your phone bill this month. * you've got http://www.pjcollectors.com bookmarked as one of your most frequently visited websites. * you have been overdrawn more often than you can remember - all thanks to the greatest band in the world - and you laugh about it. * you completely flip out over some rare item you bought and your friend/partner/relative once again rolls their eyes and sighs. and you know they love you, but they don't... really... understand you. ya know..? * you have said "but this IS my hobby" more often than you'd like to admit.
if you can relate to any or all ( ) of the above you are, definitely, a collector.
you do not fit into this category if: * you just have all of the studio albums and a couple of boots and occasionally pick up a magazine if PJ's on the cover. maybe a couple of t-shirts too, but that's it. you do not go out of your way to get your hands on some rare vinyl or whatever and yes, you do consider your bills to be a priority...
please note that this thread is not to determine how much of a PJ fan you are. i know plenty of people who are huge PJ fans but really don't buy that much music or merch.
oh, and please tell some good (collecting) stories while you're at it... (or explain why your phone bill is more important to you)

I am not a collector. I have all official bootlegs but I still had money for it back then. And I have some rare things but I got them for free or from friends, or bought them at record fairs when I still went to those. If I had more money I would become a collector, I think, since it's so easy nowadays with Ebay and all...

I can admit it but i still get the eyes
But I can ignore the fact that i collect posters that will never hang on my wall and dvds that i will never watch. Because my wife bought me a Benny vinyl for our wedding anniversary I can blame her on it all
I have started collecting within the last 6 months or so, mainly cd singles/promos & christmas singles to start with, my bf doesn't get it & thinks I'm mad, he nearly had a heart-attack when 16 packages arrived for me from ebay in the one day

When I had money, I used to collect more. But I was more about collecting SONGS, and not items. If there was a rare track on a soundtrack, I'd buy that for the one track, but if I have a CD single I'm going to buy the vinyl just to have it. I have a few of those things, but sometimes it was for cool art, or something like that. The most I ever spent on a PJ item was only about $25 for an old xmas single.

I have 7 different versions of the Given to Fly single.
somehow, strangly, in my book of references these two lines don't really go together...

I know. But it's all I need to have.
of course. you need to have an extra copy in case of the evil GTF single snatchers that come in the night. don't forget to check behind your curtains before you go to bed.

I'm all about collecting memories, experiences from different shows, across different continents, with different people. I get a much bigger kick out of these than any item could ever give me.

Like PD, I only collected the music. T-shirts, posters, vinyl, etc. never really did anything for me, as much as I love the band. Would I like to have some of that stuff to show off? Sure. But I never spent drastic amounts of money on anything besides the music. And I'm quite content with that.

I'm in the pd/frank category too. Before the internet I would spend 50 bucks on a bootleg if it had a song I had never heard, or live stuff, etc. But I would not pay for a different version of something i already had, and I didn't buy x-mas singles if I had the songs elsewhere. I did buy lots of posters for a while but that wasn't expensive. The last huge block of money I spent on them was the 2000 Binaural shows. If I could have afforded it I would have bought all the 2003 shows. If they are just digital downloads I don't feel bad only buying the shows I saw and finding the rest

Don't they start to smell after a while?
No, I collect them alive, preferably. And during tours they can shower at my ho(s)tel room, if necessary .
