do any memebers of the PJ community listen to Pavement. i don't think i've ever heard anyone mention them. geez i like them a lot and hear Malkmus may be helpin Berman/The Silver Jews record.
it's interesting to me because Ed references The Pixies, and Minor Threat and Fugazi, and other indie bands from the eighties as being influences, and Pavement is going to be one of the bands that the new torch-bearers of rock n' roll will start to tout as an influence.
Pearl Jam hasn't gotten far enough along time wise of Led Zeppelin status in which they are in the annals of classic rock, but soon enough I imagine.
The Stokes and other "the" bands have referenced Pearl Jam, but only as a minor influence or as a gateway to legitimate music. Maroon 5 and another band have referenced the PJ ethic but haven't really been influenced by their style. i'm curious who will treat pearl jam the way ed/pearl jam treat The Who. and who will treat Pavement the way Pearl Jam has treated other indie bands.
and please, NO CREED comments. thats older than the Navy Bean bullshit.

ive read a few different places that pearl jam was more than a "minor" influences to the strokes, but i think its a little too early in pearl jams career for them to be influences to a vast amount of band the way the who and led zep are right now and have been through out the years.

Pearl Jam is my favorite band. Pavement is a very very close second. I was fortunate enough to see Pave five times before they broke up. Even got to hang out in their green room and see a soundcheck where they played all classic rock covers.
Actually, I'm shocked to see another Pearl Jam fan mention Pavement. But their paths have crossed a few times. Back in 95 or 96 Malkmus wrote a story for a zine of some sort where the story took place about twenty years in the future, and he sought out Vedder and found him living in the Himalayas. Good stuff. Also, Eddie and Mike borrowed Malkmus' and Spiral's guitars at the 97 TFC. In an interview with Adam Yauch after the show Eddie mentioned how he hadn't heard pavement before, but after watching them play they were his new favorite band.
Anyways, everyone who likes Pearl Jam should at least give a listen to Crooked Rain Crooked Rain. Lots of good rock songs, and Fillmore Jive is the epic that Pearl Jam still haven't written.
Pavement was a great band and they certainly deserve a ton of credit regarding their influence on current music.
As far as Pearl Jam's influence on other bands (like the Who is on them)...I think it is already set in stone, but it's a bit too early for bands to talk about it a lot. It's still sort of cool among some bands to put Pearl Jam down even though their influence is obvious. In a way it's like all the radio talk show hosts out today they copy Howard Stern but put him down at the same time. Some people just need time to go by before they can give the proper people credit.

Mitch Hedberg RIP
When the guy from 'staind' covered a bunch of pj songs this board ripped him to hell. Which I could never understand. People were mad because he only played songs from 'ten'.

On the strokes studio there are/were two pealr jam posters. One of them was the live on two legs ames collage.

I like Pavement. I used to have every album, but I cut it back to Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain and Terror Twilight -- the only two I listened to quite a bit.
I remember Stephen kind of going off about Mike's tone for "Hunger Strike" --saying that it was horribe and too treble-ly for his tastes. He said that as they got more refined and cultured with other bands, that Pearl Jam sounded and played better. So I guess it's a mixed compliment.
God bless,
Jared
