so two jobs ago when i worked at the college, i opened up our fridge/freezer only to find a hard drive in it.
i was like, who the fuck did this, when the part time tech fessed up quite quickly. i asked why and he said the hd was going bad (something i told him to look at) so he was freezing it in the hopes of retrieving information from it that was needed. i shook my head and laughed.
he laughed about 2 hours later when he was able to retrieve all the documents

I once performed a BIOS chip hot-swap.
A friend of mine had tried to update his BIOS software, but something went wrong, rendering it impossible to start the PC. Now in order to be able to overwrite the corrupted bios-chip, you have to be able to get past the BIOS screen. Catch-22.
I had the same model mainboard, so I swapped his BIOS chip for mine; booted up his PC and, while it was running, removed my BIOS and replaced the original (corrupted) chip. I rewrote the BIOS software to the chip and voilà: Working PC.
