I have to write a research paper, 10-15 pages long on anything I want. I could choose the easy way out and do it on Pearl Jam or I can choose a topic that's more challenging, maybe something being debated in the world today.
What have all you college people written about before? Any suggestions? I just don't want something too popular (illegal immigration, war in Iraq, etc...) that someone else will probably choose as well.

What I'm really looking for is ideas. I know a lot of you went to college and wrote papers. What were some of the more interesting topics that you or your classmates chose to write about?
My current possibilities are:
Pearl Jam Drug Prohibition The Patriot Act Alternative energy sources
OR choosing a music legend and his influence on music such as Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, Neil Young or Jimi Hendrix.
My first thought was a paper on the benefits of legalizing marijuana, but I don't know if I can get 15 pages out of that, since at least in my mind it's a simple issue and plus I don't need the teacher and class thinking they've found the token pot smoking slacker in the class, not that it matters all that much, but then again it does.
I really just want to know what you all have written about in the past.

write about something you can argue about
write about something you care about and the argument part will come naturally.
that's not how you should approach an argument
I disagree, but that's not what this thread is about.
this thread is about research papers, therefore in turn, it is about arguments and how to approach them.
so you cared enough about this subject to argue with me about it even though I specifically stated I disagree with your stance and this thread isn't about arguments...

whats the class?
Just English 101 composition. I just signed up at the community college here in New Haven. I've got an English and Math class, the first two classes I've had since 1996.
I really wanna do it on Pearl Jam, because I know I can do a good job on it and it'd be easy, but at the same time I wanna learn something, ya know? The illegal downloading of music was a good suggestion, and I've been thinking of doing it on the failure of drug prohibition and what alternative measures we can take to tackle the drug problem here in the USA, like more rehab vs mandatory sentencing for non-violent drug offenders.
So many choices for someone who sucks at making decisions.
