I'm taking a new job in La Follette, TN. I will be living in the Knoxville area. I am coming from upstate SC. I moved out of the parents house at the beginning of last year, so I am well adjusted to living alone and taking care of myself. Does anybody have any tips for things you need to do when you move to a new state? Also, does anyone know any decent online resources for finding an apartment, outside of craigslist?

Call your credit card companies and inform them about your change of locale. But be sure to tell them the date you'll be there so any bills don't arrive before you do.

Don't cheap out and rent a 10' van. Spend the extra $20 or whatever and get a 14' truck. This way, you're 100% sure you'll get everything in one shot instead of making a 2nd trip.
When loading the truck, put your light/small stuff in first. When you're ready to unload, you'll be ready to take on the heavy shit immediately.

There are many apartment sites out there, just google apartments, Be sure to visit there at night to see how quiet it is(I am assuming you don't like to party in your old age like me, as I am 28 and don't want any noise at all)

That's a terrible idea by the way. What if you run out of room? It's a lot easier to find space for smaller stuff then it is bigger stuff.

Oh, and my idea is better because I worked as a moved and packed many a truck.

Thanks for the tips. Since I'm living paycheck to paycheck at the moment I'm gonna have to stay with my grandparents for a month or so to get enough cash together for my own place. Its a good thing they live in the area I'm moving to. The company I'm going to work for will pay to move me so I'm gonna have to have some movers come in and put my stuff in storage until I find a place.

I should've worded it as to say "arrange items in the truck so small items are not in the way". You'll shave loading time in half, believe me.

Oh, and don't use U-Haul. Those trucks are death machines.

I just helped a friend of mine move in this morning. Get the biggest truck they got, so you can just make one trip.

I can second that. U-haul is basically terrible

And yeah, worded that way it makes sense.
