I was super psyched to recognize Tom Waits' voice in the trailer before even realizing he was in it. Awesome.

Looks pretty good. I was just wondering the other day whatever happened to the kid from Almost Famous, and voila. Here it is.

That's exactly what I thought while watching the trailer - I remember her from that movie alone and thought she was adorable. I didn't want to ask because I didn't think anyone else here saw that movie.

yeah, i definately think she was a babe in that one. kind of too good for the environment she was in, but lacking the self esteem to get out of it. not to get off topic, but there were some interesting parts in the movie (like the montage of shots with the dude backpacking through europe). personlly i thought it was pretty good, what made you think no one here saw it and how did you like the movie?

I didn't think anyone saw it for a couple of reasons:

1. I never read anyone here mention the movie at all. Not that it was insanely popular, but I thought it would have been brought up in the 2 years I've been posting here.

2. The movie's lead was James "Dawson Creek" Van Der Beek.

Overall I thought it was pretty good, but like all of Ellis' work translated to cinema, there's just too much going on for anyone to possible understand all of it (see also American Psycho and Less Than Zero). Hence they don't feel like complete narratives to me. No one, as far as I know, has yet to really translate an Ellis novel to a movie script very well. Perhaps that's because it's just too fucking difficult. Having only read American Psycho and none of his other work, I can't comment on all of them. But if they did it with Fight Club, they can do it for just about anything.

haha, i was waiting for point #2. i think if people saw this it might add some complexity to their opinion of him. i agree that the stories are a spotty, but they are still affecting/disturbingly humorous, just like American Psycho. I really need to read this guys work, but it likely won't happen until after this semester. back on topic, has anyone rented wristcutters (more specifically, is it out on dvd)? until this preview, i never realized fugit was in both almost famous and spun. i can't believe it was the same guy playing both roles. he is a filthy little specimen in spun.
