This is a photograph of it in the 96% complete stage...
It's acrylic paints on canvas.
I think the size is probably about 4' x 3', though i'm not entirely positive..:-/

I like it and you should use oils. - I have a good friend who uses acrylic exclusively and while I always like her paintings, they generally come up a bit flat to me.

I liked them myself when I used to do paintings in high school of cartoon/animation type things because they were perfect for that but oils really make life way more interesting to me when painting.

Just a suggestion - mostly because the style of the painting is very oil-like, which can work with acrylics, but why bother?

anyway, nice stuff, for sure.

Thanks, it's definitely something i'm considering. I've always loved and preferred the effect of oils (from being an observer of art), but acylic paints are just always around, so it's always just more practical for me.

Also, because i haven't really played with oils much at all, i feel really hesitant to start. Kind of like being afraid of heights and always jumping from the lower diving board of a swimming pool - it's fun and fulfilling, but there's more to be gained. I'll get to that top diving board soon.

I went through a similar thing a couple of years back when i was really hesitant to pick up any kinds of paints at all - i just stuck to my comfort zones, pencils, pastels and sketches. As soon as i discovered paint and colour i couldn't keep away from it.

I understand completely what you're saying, and I both agree and relate.
worse for me is looking at a big ass empty canvas (I work very big, like the size of what you posted) and KNOWING there's no way in hell I'm going to be able to fill it all and still like what I put on it.
It scares the hell out of me- so much so that I tend to wait for weeks after stretching/priming one before even attempting picking up a brush. :/

I suggest that you try out oils anyway- even if the use of them is intimidating or whatever. maybe get some of those canvas boards- cardboard covered in canvas and pre-primed- something smallish?

play with it.
doesn't matter how it comes out- it's practice.
I think that's the only way I can make myself paint at all- it's not important per se, it's all just practice, and no rules apply.
sometimes it turns out some nice work without even noticing it.

ok-

That's very, very cool.

I took art for 4 years in high school, and if I do say so myself, I did some pretty neat paintings. I always liked acrylics, though I never did get around to trying oils.
