a highschool friend of mine passed away yesterday and it sucks, of course. i last saw him in 2005 i guess when the band i'm in played in montreal.
this guy was a bassist in my highschool band, my first band in fact. we played in bars when we were underage together, had our first smoke, weed and acid together...we were very close until college.
last week i found his sister on facebook and we were planning a jam session with him soon - she said he was a bit of a recluse nowadays, aware that his health was going downhill but not following his doctor's advices so...she asked me to play "Wish You Were Here" at his funeral this week. i really don't know if i can do this - i mean, i will, but you know...friends dying is a new thing to me, i don't know what to make of this

sounds like it would be terribly hard to do, but maybe it will help you cope. good luck

i will do this for her - there's no way i would propose myself to play this very song at a friend's funeral though. i'd rather go there relatively unnoticed, grieving like everyone else.

I'm sorry to hear that. If you definitely feel up for it, do it: it would mean a lot to the family, I'm sure. But don't force yourself into it.

Just don't do an Elton John at Princess Diana's funeral: keep your eyebrows strapped down.
