so at the gym, they have whats called body pump. basically its an intense cardio with light weights. lunges, squats, curls, tricep extensions, bench press, shoulder press, laterals.
having watched some of these classes i thought, yea, how hard can it be, looks easy, specially with people using like 20 lbs for their weight
i took this class tonite and i had to literally fight back the urge to puke. i work out on a regular basis and play basketball 2 nights a week. the two nights i play basketball i lift an hour and a half before i play. i have never ever ever been this sore as i am tonite.
guys, i know it looks wimpy, but if you have the chance to take it, i suggest you do. its really intense

I've taken every group exercise class my gym offers, including power yoga which is pretty cool. They do look girly at first, but man, if you put 100% into it, you'll drop dead by the end of the class. There are only two classes I still take: boot camp and spinning. Spinning is great when taken with the proper instructor who knows when to vary resistance levels and cycling position. Boot camp is the highest intensity class the gym offers. It consists of a lot of sprinting, lunges, pushups, light-weight/high-repetition lifting, crunches, etc. Our 10 second rest periods is a brisk jog. Your target heart rate will be at its peak for an entire hour, guaranteed. I consider myself in pretty good shape and this class destroys me every time.

I've taken this class for year. Not that much cardio but it's great for toning. Usually go 3x a week and I can tell a difference if I can get in a fourth. I really enjoy it and get a lot of it. More discipline when you have to finish a track than just saying "screw it" with free weights. At my gym it is mostly women in class but there's a few other guys that are regulars in class. It's almost fun watching a new guy come in and think they pick it up right away and add on the weight only to struggle before the warm up is over. I've tried to get into spinning but it never really clicked to the point that I felt like I was missing something if I didn't go.
