This "story" cracks me up. "Critics, including many in Congress, said that would encourage mergers and stifle diversity in news and entertainment. What? You mean, stifle diversity any more than it already is given the big "five"? http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline ... ol/giants/
.please.
It looks to me more like the Federal Government and the FCC are protecting the cable television industry, just as they have against companies like DishNetwork, who are forced to sell "packages" of channels with no way to offer anything other than the packages.
Whatever. They all suck and we should turn off the radio and the t.v., not buy their magazines, etc. It's all marketing to sell us shit anyway, there is very little original thought nor artistry via these companies anyway.
Well these companies (as usual) are working against the will of the people, considering that there was a massive public outcry against these FCC ownership rules after they were passed. A well functioning democracy needs a wider scope of voices, and the already limited ideological framework that these media outlets are operating with anyway is made all the more worse when it can spread and own more and more while shutting out opposing and other outlets. I'm sorry for this, but I don't think true ideological diversity in news is compatable with the free market.
