Depp and Banderas in Sin City 2? Source: MTV March 26, 2007
MTV talked to Sin City 2 co-director Robert Rodriguez and star Rosario Dawson about the anticipated film, which will tell one story this time that may include Johnny Depp and Antonio Banderas. Here are several clips from the article:
"[Depp] was interested in doing the Jackie Boy character that Benicio [Del Toro] played [in the first one], but he was doing that movie 'Libertine' in Europe and it just kept getting pushed and delayed and went right through our shooting schedule," Rodriquez said of the actor he directed in "Once Upon a Time in Mexico." "But there is a better role for him in ['Hell and Back']. I kept going, 'Gosh, Jackie Boy is a small part, he could be really good [as Wallace].' When he wasn't available, I thought maybe it was meant to be."
While no deal is in place for Depp at the moment, Rodriguez seemed coyly confident they would get the Oscar-nominated actor. The director was equally excited about potentially casting another of his old favorites, Antonio Banderas.
"When I showed him the first sample of the work, he went, 'Man I'll do anything in that. I'll be the hunchback. You have to bring me onboard, that looks amazing,' " Rodriguez recalled. "So Frank met him that time too and he said, 'I have got to find something for that guy. I've never met him before. He's amazing.' [So we're] looking at the cast of characters and [looking] to see where he can fit."

i think this is very misleading. they're talking about Depp in 'Hell and Back' which is Sin City 3.

Yeah, I noticed that too after I posted it. And no role even mentioned for Banderas. But if it's at all accurate, they're getting Banderas in however they can, and he'll be on board if they find a role for him. Both have worked with Rodriguez before, and I'm sure it wouldn't be a stretch.
Would the Grindhouse turns out affect either's decision down the road, maybe?
An exciting prospect, nonetheless.

this needs to come out FFS.
When I saw this bump I thought someone has posted news that production is beginning soon.
I wouldn't hold my breath, though I'm not sure why. This seems like a no brainer to be RR's next.

RR is doing Barbarella remake right now.
Actually no. He was going to, but couldn't get the budget down from $80mil and apparently the studio set the limit at $60 for that one. So it's a no go. Get on it Rob Rod.

'Sin City 2' Will Have Rosario Dawson and Mickey Rourke, and Maybe Angelina Jolie
April 19, 2012
Speaking to MTV, Robert Rodriguez confirmed that the variously-damaged head of Mickey Rourke will, as expected, be returning for A Dame To Kill For, the Sin City sequel the director confirmed last week. Rodriguez also assured everyone that Rosario Dawson also will be returning, "and she's pumped," as anyone would be if their last major release was Zookeeper.
As for the involvement of Angelina Jolie, who Rodriguez has long stated he'd like to play the film's titular, murder-worthy dame, the director played coy, saying only, "I haven't even gotten to meet with her yet about it or discuss with Frank about who we would want to go with or talk to first." But considering Jolie is one of the few non-porn-stars alive to bear the ridiculous features seen in Frank Miller's stylized illustrations, it's hard to imagine she wouldn't at least be approached.
