Let's do this.

1. The Player
2. 3 Women
3. Popeye (just kidding....in fact, let's pretend this isn't even Altman, k?)
3. Short Cuts
4. Nashville
5. McCabe and Mrs Miller
6. California Split (sentimental favorite, loads of fun)
7. Images
8. MASH
9. Secret Honor
10. A Prarie Home Companion
11. Vincent and Theo
12. The Long Goodbye
13. Kansas City
14. Gosford Park
15. Pret-a-porter
16. Cookie's Fortune

7 of these I've watched only once, within the past two weeks, so this might change a little. Feel free to discuss the movies.

I've seen very little of Altman's work (I know, I suck), but The Player and M*A*S*H* are both incredible movies. I've been meaning to rent Nashville for the longest time, but I always forget about it when I'm at Blockbuster. I should write myself a note and tape it to my Blockbuster card.

I've only seen it and Short Cuts, but A Prairie Home Companion is my favorite. I loved that movie to a ridiculous extent.

1. MASH
2. Gosford Park

And those the only two I've seen, and I'm not really all that interested in seeing any others, since those two didn't turn me on all that much. I can see why people would like them, but I really don't think that Altman is for me.

I haven't seen enough Altman, but out of the films I have I'll say Short Cuts

Well I guess we can throw this thread on the scrap pile then. If I can make some recommendations, though, check out 3 Women and Images for some of the man's best surreal/psychological work. That side of Altman seems to really have been overlooked. Check out California Split, it was the first Altman I'd ever seen and a great sit-and-have-a-beer buddy flick, and one of Elliott Gould's finer moments.

And avoid Popeye.

You should write yourself a note to get Netflix.

3. Mash
4. Short Cuts
5. Images

I don't have time to figure out the rest. I'll think about it.

See, now I'd put Mash in the number one spot.

Short Cuts has got to be one of the most asininely good movies i've ever seen.

Having Robert Altman direct stories written by Raymond Carver is probably the film equivalent of the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls.
