Sal Paolantonio is the author of the new book, "The Paolantonio Report: The Most Overrated and Underrated Players, Teams, Coaches & Moments in NFL History." Here are his five most overrated quarterbacks of all-time: 1. Joe Namath: His legend has much more to do with his Super Bowl III performance and his prolific off-field antics than his career stats. 2. Brett Favre: His image in the media has been hyperinflated to the good ol' boy routine, and that's why people like him. 3. Terry Bradshaw: He was ultimately an average quarterback who was surrounded by the greatest cast of talent ever assembled on one NFL roster, including eight Hall of Fame players. 4. Ken Stabler: His only accomplishment was winning the 1976 Super Bowl where the Raiders mostly ran and the defense stifled Fran Tarkenton. 5. Tony Romo: He barely made the team, and after one season of play he became a full-fledged superstar without really accomplishing anything to deserve it.

Good point about Namath. I never knew too much about him, but the article is right when it says that nearly all his fame comes from the SBIII victory. I totally agree about Romo as well. His new contract with the Cowboys make it seem like he's a Godsent (but where are the results?).

from what I've read, Namath would have had a much better career if not for injuries.
Is Favre really overrated? People have been calling for his retirement for at least 5-6 years....I think most people know his strengths/weaknesses at this point.
As for Bradshaw, does anyone put him anywhere near the top 5 when it comes to best QB's of all time? I think he's "rated" right about where he should be.
Stabler is another guy before my time, but he put up some very good numbers in an era when it much more difficult to throw the ball.
Romo is playing like one of the best 3-4 QB's in the league right now, so maybe Sal should have held off on that one.

I have no problem with this list except for Farve being on it, to say that he is overrated because of how the media shows him is stupid, not everyone has a Madden like crush on Farve and he does have the stats that the others dont. Is he a top five QB? I dunno because in his prime he was very good, but there was like a 3-4 yr run where he was damn near awful. For me he is a top ten QB, but i disagree that a first ballot HOF player can be overrated
Most people put Favre in the 3-5 range which I'd say is about right.
Bradshaw? Maybe more "famous" than he'd be if it were just for his qb career, but he isn't really "rated" too high I don't think.
I don't like Sal Palantonio and this gimmick book/column style. In that same book, he claims that Barry Sanders is one of the most overrated players ever. I think he's just trying to make outlandish claims just for the sake of it.

Yes, Namath's legend is definitely bigger than his actual playing.
I have always though Romo was overrated. Any able-bodied QB could thrive in the Dallas offense with all of the players that they have. Hell, even Bledsoe had one decent season behind center.

He's only lost 5 games as a starter in a season and a half, and he's the NFL's second rated passer. Are you retarded?

Really? Always? You mean, the entire year he's been a starter? Several able - bodied qb's have failed here, this is a ridiculous statement.

I honestly don't remember why he said them. The interview was a month or two ago.

Could Eli Manning be considered overrated? I mean, he's considered one of the best young quarterbacks but his QB rating is below 74 (whats the league average?) and this season he has almost as many INTs as TDs. You could even argue that he's holding the Giants back. There's a rumor out that the Giants are considering whether he should even be their longterm QB and what they're going to do with his final 2 years.

gotcha. Seems like a ridiculous statement to make...they destroyed other teams.
