where if i need to do something the next morning, like work, i end up sitting around doing nothing until 3 am because i don't want to go to bed and have to get up and do that thing i'm dreading. all it does though is make me feel even shittier when i'm on 3 hours of sleep.

I do this when I have a big event/interview in the morning. I'm not nervous, but I can't sleep for thinking about it. Weird.

this is the story of my life- more or less.
I've decided it's the product of a basic insecurity about the outcome of any given task, a desire to do as close to perfect a job on something as possible, and a passive aggressive tendency to not do what I'm told.
and I'm lazy.
I combat it by resigning myself to finish something regardless of my lack of motivation, and to not kill myself trying to do it 'perfectly'. Being stubborn helps, but not much- it's about a 50-50 shot for me of doing what I'm supposed to do depending on the amount of anxiety I have about it, but I notice myself improving as I get older.

"self-handicapping" to sum it up, no?
If you're addressing me, I call it over thinking a situation.
nah, invention. He dreads whatever he has to do so he stays up late as a way of trying to stay away from having to do the thing as long as possible, but ends up being tired as hell. So when he has to do his task or whatever, if it isn't quite up to par he can say "well it is because i'm as hell." Self-handicapping

This is me every Sunday night because I can't fucking stand the thought of going to work on Monday morning. And no matter how tired I am or how hard I try to go to bed early, on Sunday nights, I just can't do it. Every Sunday. Jesus.
