I'm a huge fan of Kurt Vonnegut, and I've been reading him a lot lately. I think comedy is the ultimate form of expression, its my personal opinions of course. Either way I'm breezing through novels in the form of downloaded audiobooks. What are some other great works of comedy I should know about. I already got Catch22, John Hodgeman's - The areas of my expertise, I know Mark Twain has a lot of comedy and satire. I'm downloading that currently. I don't foresee preferring anyone to vonnegut, but I'd like to know what else is out there. What are your favorites?

Breakfast of Champions is the funniest Vonnegut, so def. read that one if you haven't yet.

David Sedaris is funny, but his books are short essay type stories on his life.

Besides that I don't have anything else to offer. I'm finding it hard to find an author that is funny and that can stack up to Vonnegut.

I'm reading A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, by Dave Eggers, right now. I'm almost through it, and it's really really funny. I hear his other stuff is good, too. And of course, his Mcsweeney's site is amazing.
Christopher Buckley's Thank You for Smoking, which the movie is based on, is also very funny.
John Irving is more serious, but if you look for the humor in his stuff, a lot of it is very funny. Especially in The World According to Garp.

IMO, Vonnegut is the winner, though.

He has a great "voice" within his short stories. I just got "Holidays On Ice," which I'll start after I finish finals. This past spring I had a ticket for one his readings in Chicago. Easter+radical mother+living at home for free=me no see david sedaris :( .

David Foster Wallace is a funny author -- much more so in his books of essays.

Check out A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again and his latest Consdier the Lobster for the proof.

if sedaris makes the cut, chuck klosterman should as well.

my personal favorite is karl pilkington. he has a new book out called happyslapped by a jellyfish. he talks about vacations he's been on. in one excerpt he talked about how he accidentally found himself on a nude beach. he saw this woman with a "mental amount of pubic hair." he went on to say "it looked like she was smuggling seaweed." that's pretty much the level.

i read a lot of pratchett when i was younger, but i tried reading 'good omens' after reading neil gaiman's 'american gods' (which i loved), and came to the realisation that pratchett is TERRIBLY TERRIBLY CHEESY. most of the jokes made me cringe instead of laugh.

some of the best ones (twain, vonnegut, catch-22) have already been mentioned

so i guess i'll just profess my love for charles bukowski once again by remning you of how frikkin hilarious he could be. i mostly read on the train and bukowski gets me the most weird looks cause of my lollin'

best poet of the last century but a lot of his brilliance is obscured by poems like 'betting on horses #563' and 'fucking woman #3459' if you know what i mean. but i cant really blame him for having been prolific.
