bob uecker is fucking hilarious.

Harry Doyle: "That's all we got, one goddamn hit?"
Assistant: "You can't say goddamn on the air."
Harry Doyle: "Don't worry, nobody is listening."

"The post-game show is brought to you by ... (searches through his papers) ... Christ, I can't find it. To hell with it."

"Haywood leads the league in most offensive categories, including nose hair. When this guy sneezes he looks like a party favor."

(Vaughn throws a ball to the backstop) "Juuust a bit outside, tried the corner and missed ... Ball eight ... Ball twelve, how can these guys lay off pitches this close?"

Harry Doyle: Remember, fans, Tuesday is Die Hard Night. Free admission for anyone who was actually alive the last time the Indians won the pennant.

Harry Doyle: This guy threw at his own son in a father son game.

Harry Doyle: [Hayes takes his lead off first base] We don't know where Hayes played last year, but I'm sure he did a hell of a job.
Harry Doyle: [Hayes looks down, then gets thrown out by the pitcher] Throw to first... Hayes is picked off! Personally, I think we got hosed on that call.

Yeah, Bob Uecker almost steals the movies with some of his one-liners. Love the first movie, like the second movie, never saw the third.

And as an aside, just the other day I was wondering whatever happened to Tom Berenger? I always thought he was a good actor, but is he now floating out in b-movie/straight-to-video land? That's a real shame.

I think I saw Berenger on some show on ABC.

This thread should be renamed to "Major League". The sequels are not worth discussing.

There are so many moments I love in this movie. The meeting with the owner and her executives at the beginning and the list of guys she wants brought in. The scene where Charlie calls Lou to offer him the Indians job and Lou puts him on hold. And, of course, "Too high?"

Jake Taylor: That ball wouldn't have been out of a lot of parks.
Rick Vaughn: Name one.
Jake Taylor: Yellowstone?

the only good part of the third one is when there's that home run and it goes something like this:

announcer 1: that's outta here! home run!
uecker: yea, well, personally i think the wind took that one.
announcer 1: we're in a dome!

or something like that.

i know disussing the "reality" of these movies is kinda pointless, but that second movie....when Vaughn insists on putting the winning run on by walking a guy just so he could pitch to Parkman.....any manager NOT named Grady Little wouldnt ever in a million years allow that to happen.

Parkman and Randy Quaid's character were the two best parts of the sequel.
