Personally it's nowhere near my favorite tune on the soundtrack. I absolutely love No Ceiling, but it's cool that he got the nod. Between these nominations I might actully prefer the Cornell song which was the only decent track to come from him this year!

I actually really like that Cornell song--the one bright spot on a horrendous album.

Good for Eddie though. It's nice to see the academy actually get it right every now and then

funny that Chris Cornell and Eddie end up being nominated the same year.

though I don't like Cornell's song at all.

You are correct sir. The Frames been playing the tune for years, too. But, it's on the Once soundtrack, and it's the tune for the nomination.

Fucked if I know. Maybe coz it's not the Frames' version? It's the Swell Season (read: Glen and Marketa) version. I do see your point. Hope he wins it anyway, just coz he's a mate o mine.

Hmm, i think "falling slowly" might be a better song than "Guaranteed"

I was hoping he would get nominated for "Rise".

When is the show?

you'll notice the award is for the SONGWRITER, not for the performer. If it is indeed a cover, it definitely should not qualify (like Hard Sun doesn't).

That's great news, haven't heard the Glen Hansard one but Guaranteed beats the pants off Cornell's Bond Theme.

Pegasus, I don't understand the rules either. Wasn't FALLING SLOWLY written for Swell Season, not for Once? Swell Season was released in 2006. Do you know how this works? I actually think that FALLING SLOWLY will win, but I still don't understand how it qualified.

Does that mean that if Eddie had put, say, MARKER IN THE SAND into ITW, it would have qualified for a Grammy?

I wonder how far back you can go. I think that stip might have liked it if they put ALIVE into ITW.

Falling Slowly was written for Once and is eligible for a few reasons, a very very different version of the song appeared on the frames last album 'the cost' and as its a totally different version from the version featured in Once, it's eligible, and also because it wasn't written for or featured in any other movie. And the Cost was only released in the States in january of this year. It wasn't written for the swell season though it is on there.

Falling Slowly was written for Once but owing to some 'production delays' with the film, a very very different version of the song appeared on the frames last album 'the cost' and as its a totally different version from the version featured in Once, it's eligible.
