im a nostalgic person in general, but sometimes rather than long for moments, places or people of my past i get dreamy about videogames i used to play. i think a lot of people whove enjoyed games for the majority of their lives recognize the feeling of "damn, that game was SO AWESOME, wish i could play it again"

now of course this has to do with the fact that just about everything in this world is more awesome when you're a kid, but in my case this rings true especially with games.

im pretty glad i grew up in the 'golden age' of videogames, when there was so much left unexplored and every time something new was introduced it just COMPLETELY BLEW MY MIND

wolfenstein 3d? holy shit! look at these graphics! look at how gruesome it is when a nazi collapses like a bag of sand and intestines.
the secret of monkey island? holy shit! i can explore this WHOLE ISLAND? jesus i can't believe they give you so much freedom in a game!

of course now i can still play games and enjoy the hell out of em. but it doesnt feel quite the same anymore as fifteen years ago when my impressionable mind would readily accept any poorly developed shitfest of a game as the best thing ever.

i just blasted through commander keen 4 - one of my childhood favourites - in 2 hours. i never completed it before although i must have put over a hundred hours into it. the dopefish used to scare the hell out of me.

anyway, whats your BLAST FROM THE PAST?

Pretty much a decent clutch of Megadrive games (the Sonics, Landstalker, Shining Force 2, Earthworm Jim), a smattering of NES (Bart vs. the Space Mutants, Megaman 2, the Marios) and some Commodore 64 (a lot of which I can't remember, but those I do I remember fondly, like Jet Set Willy and Encounter). Oh, and some older PC games like the superlative Theme Park, Theme Hospital, Magic Carpet 1 & 2, the first set of Commander and Conquer games, Quake and both Dungeon Keepers.

Video game nostalgia = :bammer:

Paperboy was a great game. I remember playing that on the C64.

Toejam and Earl as well. The sequel (though very different) is worth a try as well

Wow, Stunts! I remember doing these absolutely spectacular crashes. The car would get obliterated, and would fly in the air for like 30 seconds. Good times

My first real video game memory is fucking hating Duck Hunt. Wolfenstien was cool, as were the Aliens versions of Doom. I remember being excited as hell when my friend got a 486, so I could play the death star missions on X-Wing.
