I guess you could say every Cameron Crowe movie, since he puts a lot of emphasis on the soundtrack. That also goes for Sofia Coppola(Lost in Translation, The Virgin Suicides).

i wouldn't say its essential, but wes anderson's flicks, especially the middle three, are significantly enhanced by the music.
