"The mission of women is to be beautiful and to bring children into the world. This is not at all as.........unmodern as it sounds. The female bird pretties herself for her mate and hatches eggs for him. In exchange, the male takes care of gathering food, and stands guard and wards off the enemy."

in the animal world, and this is especially true for birds, the male is the one who has to be colorful, attractive, big, strong, and generally "good enough" for the female to mate with.
so unless human men are willing to wear a lot of really flamboyant clothing and makeup, and prove their strength, intelligence, and genetic superiority at first contact with a woman by dancing, singing and general chest thumping then this whole animal world model of relationships/breeding is irrelevant.

Dude, if that was ALL I had to do with my life, I'd be a happy girl. LOL. Now we have to do all that, earn half the income, raise the kids on our own in a lot of cases - all while keeping our lipstick from smearing and our mascara from running.
It may SOUND over simplified and sexist, but being a woman is not easy, nor does it require being 'weaker'.

Sorry to burst your bubble Mary Tyler Moore, but it doesn't have to be that way. If that's the burden you've chosen to accept then that's on you, but don't frame it as being how it "has" to be.

Riiiiiight. Actually, no. It's not all a choice. I guess if I wanted to run away and live in a cave somewhere, maybe. But where exactly do you see room in my life that if I want to I could quit my job today and just be pretty and fertile? My door isn't exactly being beaten down by available millionaires who want to marry me and keep me comfortable. Chances are, if I marry, it will be to a normal middle class Joe, who will need my income to suppliment his in order to keep a decent roof over our head, and our kids, should we so choose.

That's bullshit. Men shouldn't have to do any of that stuff...

so, let's see , how many posts was that? Have I destroyed the thread yet?
It's like I'm in a candy store here today, I got a raped Halliburton employee who's being blamed for being raped, a man who murders his own daughter for not wearing sheets over her head, and a chick that thinks it's better to find a millionaire to take care of her so she can look pretty or something...

ok, I do have a real comment here- first off it reads more like an observation on some type of animal other than people, which is my guess at why the quote isn't attriubuted to anyone because it would give it away, however if you want me to play along for the sake of argument:
when the author of this quote says "mission"- is that supposed to be interpreted as 'this is what women have decided they want as their goal' or is it supposed to mean 'this is their purpose in being on the planet'?
either way, it's kind of stupid. and The part about why- and what men are hopefully going to do in return? um, maybe in tribal societies this is still true, but otherwise it seems more like a comment about how early man behaved.

nature's a bit different than civilization and humanity, don't we think?
