my mom used to make the best frosting ever.
was it buttercream? what flav was it?
nope, although I like buttercream, but I'm thinking of the chocolate frosting she made to go in "wacky cake"- a really simple chocolate cake that doesn't use any eggs. I've tried the recipe a few times, but it never comes out the same.

tell me more of this wacky cake
ingredients: 1 1/2 cup flour 3 tbsp cocoa 1/2 tsp salt 1 cup sugar 1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla 6 tbsp vegetable oil 1 tsp white vinegar 1 cup cold water
sift into ungreased pan (probably 9x13- like what you'd make brownies in) all the dry ingredients. make three holes in mixture now in the pan. Pour the vegetable oil in the first. Pour the vanilla in the second. and pour the vinegar in the third. Pour the cup of cold water over the entire thing immediately and mix well with a beater or spoon (depends on your arm strength). Bake 25-30 minutes.
Chocolate Fudge Icing: (make half the recipe for wacky cake) Combine in a bowl- 2 tbsp melted shortening 1/4 cup cocoa 1/4 tsp salt 1 tsp vanilla and 1 and 3/4 cup confectionary sugar.
God, I can almost smell it now. I need to see if I have all the ingredients, I need to make this cake again.

that wacky cake sounds yummy
it's surprisingly moist, and clean up is awesome, a spoon, a bowl and a knife (I use a knife to frost cake)
i'm actually going to try and make it sometime this week i'll let you know how it turns out
it was the cake I used to request every birthday as a kid.
I hope you have better luck with it than I've had- I think I've screwed up the baking soda before because it came out much flatter than I remembered- definitely let me know how it goes!
