A newly created thread to merge all of the recommendations in to. There seems to be a lot of separate threads about Amon, Burial, VS, etc (as easily known bands).

So...Give some recommendations and a little write up about some electronic album(s) you enjoy. It doesn't have to be easily accessible stuff, or any certain style of electronic.

Personally I am enjoying the Amon Tobin stuff, Burial - Untrue, Oval, Venetian Snares, Aphex Twin, u-Ziq, Gaslamp Killer, Skalpel, Four Tet, Leftfield, Autechure, Prefuse 73.

A lot of it is kind of jazz oriented with drum and bass over it or mixed with other styles of music. Oval is glitch(i think?) and slightly different than most of the stuff. More of a computer sound to it, imo. Burial has a kind of warm sound similar to Four Tet. I envision it sounding like a vinyl, even if it's a cd ripped FLAC.

Any more less common recommendations would be great. Most of this stuff everyone knows.

Carbon Based Lifeforms
Solar Fields
Phutureprimitive

Also been listening to more experimental ambient, a mix of some old artists and some new (to me):

Old:
Tim Hecker

Oval (yeah, this is glitch EH)

New:
William Basinski
Hikikomori
Chihei Hatakeyama

Probably not what you're looking for but I'm listening to the Digitalism album Idealism and it's pretty good.

William Basinski

Is this the guy that does Disintegration Loops? I have heard his name tossed around before. How would you describe the experimentation? Is it a Steve Reich kind of reapeating/building deal?

Yes, he is the DL guy. No, not like Steve Reich. Like extreme minimalism. Same as Chihei Hatakeyama. As in, a song is just a long modulation and mutation of a certain texture and tone combination.

Bump for three reasons:

1. I see what you were saying about "I Never Lose. Never Really"

2. Hecker's "Harmony in Blue III" is absolutely gorgeous.

3. New Ferresz album.

I really like Amon Tobin a lot.

Here's a recommendation that I think you might find interesting. The Orion String Quartet recorded Leon Kirchner's four string quartets. Only the third has elements of electronic music in it, but all four are interesting. His style is melodically expressive but removed from the sound of traditional harmonic structures. It feels a bit off-kilter.
