Dunno if you guys know this, I've Biting my tongue about this for 2 weeks or so now but Ed's playing in Los Angeles tomorrow morning for the board of the academy awards. Glen from the Frames (and the movie 'Once') is definitely also playing as he is also nominated. It's at 9am in some hotel somewhere. The purpose of the 'show' is to see to who gets to play at the Oscars & I'd imagine it's something to do with them both being nominationed.
This is impossible (but so amazin..)for me 'cos Eddie & Glen are my two favourite front men, but Glen's my cuz. That aside, he pretty much kick's Ed's ass in terms of playing solo shows & quality of songwriting in this situation. For my taste, Nothing on 'Into the Wild' is as good as 'Falling Slowly' or a lot of the other stuff on the 'Once' soundtrack but I suppose I'm biased. Just as long as one of them gets it I guess. I can't go to 'cos i've to go to dumbass France tomorrow for work, but Glen's asking Ed for his setlist if he's got one & is gonna try remember what he plays if he doesn't have one. I'll put it up if I get it.
They are also appearing together next week in NYC for the Dylan thing and are doing a photoshoot for the cover of Vogue magazine when the nominations are announced.
Happy Halloween.

the thought that someone would even consider AUDITIONING Ed is mind blowing...
yeah, he's only been playing Arenas and Stadiums shows for like...mmm.. 16 years..
and anyway, NO-ONE is even nominated yet! that won't happen until end of January..

Oscar nominations don't come out for months yet. So why are they auditioning people now, especially since there's a plethora of movies that haven't been released yet? Something isn't quite adding up here.

You must apply to be nominated for best song. The applications were due more than a month ago I believe. It doesn't matter what the release dates of the films are, the Academy board has to have time to listen to all of the songs. That is why the application due date is so early. They aren't going to announce the nominations until January 22, but they've been listening to the song and score applicants for more than a month now. They've narrowed the field down and are in the process of determining which songs will fill the final five slots. Ed is auditioning to have one of his songs be in the final five. It is a strange thought that he's auditioning again after all of these years.

submissions have not yet all been made (deadline is December 3), and all members of the Academy Music Branch vote for nominations, not an auditioning panel or the academy board.
the only reason i can thing he might be 'auditioning' is for the ceremony itself. it's not always the original artist performing at the ceremony (the worst example was for the Les Chorists song.. ), I guess as it's live, they need to make sure whoever is performing can do it...wonder if they asked The Boss to audition

Sorry, the nominations aren't due yet, but it seems that many of the applications have already been made. But an Academy Board does narrow the field of nominations down. The full field of applicants doesn't go for a vote to the entire branch.
3. In the Original Song category, Music Branch members shall meet to screen clips of the eligible songs and vote on the achievements. Following the screening of the clips, voting shall be conducted as follows:
Nominations will be determined by an averaged point system of voting using 10, 9.5, 9, 8.5, 8, 7.5, 7, 6.5 or 6. Only those songs receiving an average score of 8.25 or more shall be eligible for nomination. There may not be more than five nor fewer than three nominations.
Normally, only songs that are nominated, score components and musical numbers that are part of a nominated musical are played at the ceremony, so it seems unlikely that they would be auditioning with the idea of including performances not associated with any nominees. But the ratings have been quite low recently. Perhaps they are looking only for performances. My understanding, however, is that many applicants have already been excluded from nomination leaving a relatively small number of remaining applicants. Perhaps that it was felt that live performances were needed in order to provide final scores. Or perhaps they are just looking for good performers for the awards and nothing more.

they told elliot smith if he didnt perform, they would simply find someone who would perform his song,
sad but true
but also putting ed on is risky cos of his political outlook.. think he might be too risky for the oscars to comfortably have him play. anyone agree? for once i hope he does go on a rant.

Will there be a broadcast delay?
After Michael Moore's acceptance speech 4 years ago, not to mention Nipplegate, I'm sure there is.
And, again, this is no place for an Ed rant. People who complain at Awards shows are absolutely obnoxious.

Well we know about the left wing conspiracy, so whatever is decided, it won't be something likely to offend.

Wonder if they'll ask Glenn and Mar if they think he's... well, I won't repeat it but it was pretty ignorant. I'm still shocked by it.
.
Ah come on...are you for real? You seem to want to start stirring it up all over again. Don't. Ed doesn't know you or care about you. Get it into your head. And what anyone thinks about him doesn't mean beans to him so stop being his online bodyguard. I do know Glen and Mar so you are making it personal with comments like these looking to incite. And if you want to bring it there fine, but remember, you started it up again. No fuckin need for it..
And You could at least spell his name right... head melter..

Yeah it'd be a good interview..they're both great story tellers...As soon as I know I'll get it up here, think it's happenning closer to awards season.
