Seeing that President Bush is giving his State of the Union address tonight, I think it would be good to start a thread about it. Thoughts....Reactions...Etc.

I'm debating whether to watch this or just read the transcript afterwards. Mostly because, no matter who is president, I hate listening to 45 minutes of applause interrupting a speech.
I imagine we'll hear a lot about Freedom and Democracy...Fuckin' moron...

I'm not even bothering to watch this, first, because I'll make me sick to my stomach, and second, because it is so predictable. 45 minutes of clapping, about 50 references to freedom, and gloating the whole fucking time about how well the war in Iraq is going. I'd rather sit and read a book for the two hours and actually get a meaningful intellectual addition to my life than hearing our dear leader laying out his vision for a fundamentalist Christian corporate-governed neocon nation. I'll see the highlights tomorrow thank you very much.

I'm done. I watched from the beginning, but after picking out numerous ironies and just being annoyed, I can't take it anymore. By the way, aren't we supposed to be going to Mars soon?

I caught the end of it, where ol' W quoted Franklin Roosevelt (fuck him for quoting someone who actually knew a thing or two about true freedom and social justice). I think any American who actually buys this 'freedom on the march' garbage should be sent to a Saudi or Uzbek prison and then come back and tell me that America supports freedom. Yet the Communist media will likely kiss his ass on this point and fail to point out the constant hypocracy that laces his ideas. Anyone who comes here and says that America always stands on the side of freedom, I'll pull a Bill O'Reilly on you. Shut up. I'm glad that I missed the majority of this speech or else I might have shot the TV or thrown up dinner.

It really was not anything to get worked up about.
I disagree heavily with his stance on stem cell research and right to life issues.
I am a bit skeptical about his plans for social security, but I am willing to listen. Something must be done, and I think it is an interesting approach. I need to learn more about it, however.
I am happy that he clarified that it is not the US' intention to promote puppet regimes, but rather democratic, independent nations. If we actually do can do that, it would be a wonderful thing. I hope we can. However, I hope that it will not require us to spend trillions of tax dollars to do so.
His mentor program for combating gang violence is noble. I also hope it works.
Aside from that, I'll have to read the transcript because I too became rather annoyed with the applause!
But all in all, it was really nothing to get upset about. We all know what was going to be said anyhow. Some good, some bad, some neither.

Do not include me in your list of "fuckers". I watched it and thought some parts were okay, while other parts I disagreed with. I have already explained that. I would assume my experience is quite similar to most others.
I didn't demand that you explain why you liked it, I was just curious. You do not have to serve me the courtesy of answering. You are free to be discourteous!
chill babe.

Ignorance. Wont' comment on what you thought was done well, yet can make a comment like keep it up. If you can't back up your comments on this board with even an opinion, that's pretty weak.

I missed the first half...but I share his vision on foreign policy.
I've been in favor of reforming social security for a while now....but there were some other parts of the speech that i disagreed with (specifically, the marriage amendment) and others that I found unnecessary (the lady who lost her son in the war).
All in all..., and as always, the likelihood of liking the speech (and the applause) is STRONGLY correlated with party id and ideology.
