Alright, help me out with Mr. Wayne. I need to buy a couple for my father for Christmas. Besides "The Searchers", what are the classics? I'm thinking westerns mainly.

Definitely get Rio Bravo. And if your dad is a really big fan, spring for The Shootist as well. It's one of Wayne's best performances. There are just so many solid Wayne flicks to choose from besides Stagecoach and The Searchers.

You're crazy man. I recently just viewed "Once Upon A Time In The West" for the very first time and I think it cracked my top 25 films list. Good stuff.

I think you should watch it squarely for Claudia Cardinale (the leading lady). I haven't been so aroused by a woman on screen in quite some time. Even compared to today's women she tops them all. She's pirrrty :luv:

I'm a woman, and I have to agree. She's one of the most beautiful women that I've ever seen, and she's perfect in Once Upon a Time in the West. She's a match for the men. That makes her seem even more beautiful. And I think that this is Henry Fonda's best performance ever.

My Darling Clementine is also one of my favorite westerns. Unfortunately, it doesn't have John Wayne in it. It has the other side of Henry Fonda. The opposite of Once Upon a Time in the West. He's perfect in both.

I'm a John Wayne nut so I could list a ton of movies but if you just want westerns these are two of my favorites(that haven't been mentioned yet)....

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (it's in B&W if that's a problem)

McLintock! (very funny....has a big fist fight scene like the Quite Man but in the mud....though like a lot of movies back then the Native Americans are caricatures and it can be kind of cringe worthy at times).

if you want a WW2 movie go with....

The Longest Day (has a ton of stars from way back....it's pretty long though)

I can't help myself so here's another one....

There is also a movie called The Big Trail which was the first wide screen movie ever. I saw it on AMC once and it just looked huge...it's from 1930 but it looks amazing. I just noticed it's on DVD!

edit: I just found this on wiki...maybe the Big Trail DVD won't look as good as I remember it looking on cable....

Amazingly enough, the 70mm version has been seen on cable television while only the 35mm version has been released to video and DVD.

The Cowboys: I'm not a huge western fan, but I do like some of them. This was definitely different, and I really enjoyed it.

I second both the Shootist and Mclintock, those are my two favorites.
