A true soft drink connoisseur will see this thread title and nod with approval. Vernors, concurrently with Hires Root Beer, was the first American soft drink, first produced way back in 1866. It is a golden ginger ale as opposed to the more widely-marketed dry ginger ales that most of you have probably had. The golden variety is more strongly flavored but fell out of favor after Prohibition was lifted and the dry variety was created for use as a drink mixer.
Vernors is barrel-aged for several years to give it its unique taste, dominated by ginger and vanilla. It truly is a wonderful soda and I encourage anyone who runs into it at the store to pick up a six-pack and give it a whirl. Be prepared, though. Do not expect it to taste like any other ginger ale you've ever had.
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you my favorite soda. Vernors.

They don't have this on the eat coast. My dad, who grew up in southern california loves this. I remember when I was in kindergarten we took a trip out west and when we were there he must have ordered some from a distributor. A week or so after we got home a truck pulls up with cases upon cases of vernors. It's a ginger soda, not a ginger ale.
I'm a schweppes man through and through.

Well done my friend...this truly is the best thing going in the realm of sodas. Nothing like opening up the can taking the first sip and trying not to cough as you breathe in that sweet gingery deliciousness. Nothing compares.

Schweppes and Canada Dry are just bad versions of Sprite compared to Vernors.

I agree. I drink this regional brand called Sussex Golden. It tastes mighty fine with a generous helping of Crown Royal
And yeah, Sussex is owned by Cadbury Schweppes too. Talk about a ginger ale monopoly.

I think you can only get it in the Maritime provinces (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia & PEI)

I've had one. My cousin in Texas swears by them. It's okay. It's still a soft drink.

You clearly don't have the strength and self-destructive tendencies needed. In the summer, I start drinking at noon most days.
When I get up in the morning, I have a glass of juice. The entire work day it's water and tea...mostly tea in the winter, and after that it's booze.
