shawshank and stand by me are both from the same book, "different seasons." apt pupil, another movie is from that book as well.

shawshank is by far the best king adaptation ever made. having the wardon kill the kid was a bit over the top but other than that everything was perfect.

Me too. I think the feeling I got with reading The Body (as Stand By Me is called) is quite on the same level with the film itself. While with Shawshank it's just a great movie but it stands on its own and is more detached from the actually novel.

apt pupil is the best story in that book by far, but i do think the movie version is a bit inferior to shawshank and stand by me overall.

If you mean "better" by "faithful and not adapted by King himself" then I'd vote IIRC Green Mile, a good but bleak film (and novel). I'd rather my ass be blown up with sunshine at the end of Shawshank, my favorite film (the short story doesn't have the ending).

The guy who played Coffey was perfect. He owned the movie and the ending. Tom's performance wasn't so perfect, though - he seemed to overact a bit. Lots of drama overdrive, too, like the explosion of all the lights at the same time and even the way the sparks fell from the lamps during the final execution.

The old guy was also awesome.

That's pretty much it. A good part of the movie is Tl;dw. I'd give it three out of five.
