anyone ever have this? anything i should be aware of? is it OK to have a policy that covers both me and my roommate instead of doing it separate? right now it looks like allstate or state farm, but i can't tell if there's any difference beside the $30 difference.

Ya know, I was just thinking of getting this myself from USAA. I was thinking what if there is a fire and my hole apartment is toast. I would need the money to replace everything. I am looking into this too.

i went to http://www.netquote.com yesterday and allstate and state farm have called today, and also e-mailed me quotes.

to have me and my roommate covered for about $30,000 (3 rooms, $10,000 each), it'd cost $155 from allstate and $182 from state farm for the year.

i think my coverage was up to $25,000 for my one bedroom apt at $14 a month. considering how rampant crime is here (my car was stolen from my apts complex), i'll gladly pay for that

Does this shit cover if my tv and all my goodies are stolen or damage from fire or water. I feel like the roof on my place is gonna collaspe one day.

I was required to get it. I hate the least amount of coverage $25k from The Hartford, no flood coverage. That's all you need unless you are rich or something.

That is a good question, I mean everyone probably has a lcd tv on that list now.

the allstate insurance commercial guy (former 24 president, pedro cerrano from major leagues) is really comforting and i think i'm going to go with allstate because of that.

i don't know if you do, but keep your receipts for EVERYTHING just in case. I have a box of receipts for everything i've purchased in the past 5 years

For an inventory, also record model numbers, dates and places of purchase. Take photographs or make a video of these items and place a copy of the inventory in safe place away form your home.

I can't think of any insurance company that would want a list of the contents in your apartment.

Keep receipts, though.
