This broadcasts tomorrow evening in the UK. I'm planning on downloading it ASAP. Anyone else going to watch?

My twin bro LOVES Doctor Who and as i'm spending Christmas day with him and my family I might watch it. Also it has a tenuous story line regarding the Titanic and I love anything connected to that. Besides, i'll probably be enegy-less after a fat chrimble dinner so unable to change the channel.... If it's shite i'm going to sleep. Doctor Who annoys me :P

Yeah, I'll be watching.

The annoying thing about Doctor Who is that the episodes vary wildly in quality. For every quality episode (The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit) there's a bunch of detritus that sucks cock (Fear Her, or those episodes with that fucking kid continually saying: "Are you my mummy?" :x ) Oh, and the fact that it's rather kidsy now too. Thank God they got rid of that pregnant shetland pony Billie Piper though.

...and it was generally shite, especially near the end of the episode.

Well, I enjoyed it. I'm not a fan of the remixed theme, though.

You guys seem awfully harsh. I mean, yeah, Kylie was terrible, but that's to be expected.

Not every episode can be as good as Blink!

It was just shite!

Terrible acting, transparent plot, KYLIE (ffs..), and yet another Christmas special with androids as the enemy....

BORING!

Information: Bring back Christopher Ecclestone.

Information: Age has not been kind to Kylie.

Information: Seeing the Queen shouting "Thenk yew, Doctar!" made me want to throw up my turkey. Ditto the star sparkles of Kylie in the sky.

Information: The big fight involved Kylie in a FORKLIFT TRUCK pushing an oversized golf cart with a disembodied head into oblivion. WHAT?!

Information: I was glad the two fat people died. I would have preferred more horrible deaths for them though.

Information: good bits: The whole misunderstanding about Christmas. The spiked chestnut. The fact London was empty. The new theme tune. The fact that Kylie died and couldn't be brought back.

Alright, I'm torn. I think the BBC have kinda crippled Dr. Who by making it very kidsy (as I mentioned earlier). The logical step would be to make it more "adult". BUT they did that with Torchwood and it was... well... a bit like the current Dr. Who only with sweary bits and sex added in. Bringing back The Master was a good move last series, but please, no more friggin Daleks and Cybermen for awhile. They've been used so much that they're losing their impact. This series needs to have more from the Time Lords (the hell with them all being dead! Retcon it!). Because it's a primetime show most episodes are one parters that even the most brainless gimp of a 7 year old could follow. Thus, we need more 8 part episodes, like the old days. And less fucking celebrities cameoing as crap aliens!

Fixed, and no unless it was a multiple Doctor story, which they just did for Children in Need, although whether or not any of that is ever canon is up in the air anyway.

True, she does look old now.

Agreed, but hooray for continuity at least (regarding the Queen).

I didn't quite see why it necessitated driving the damn thing off of the ledge, but at least they can't bring her back! Maybe when the Doctor has to regenerate again his last words can be "Astrid." (Blech)

I didn't mind them at all. Just another example of Davies' love of LOL INTERRACIAL RELATIONSHIPS! Astrid and Bannakaffalatta probably also qualifies, albeit barely. Bannakaffalatta was more a BLATANTLY TRANSPARENT analogy for gay rights, though.

I didn't like the reworked theme. Maybe it'll sound better (particularly during the end credits) with the normal episodes of series four. I'm assuming we'll get the full version on the series four soundtrack. Agree with everything else there.

I don't find it that kidsy, honestly. You'd have to give me examples.

As for the Daleks, they've ALWAYS overused them and they're iconic and inseparable from the franchise (also, with Davros rumored to be returning this year, I don't think you're in any luck). The Cybermen appeared just twice, both in series two, and don't show any signs of coming back (besides a one-off on Torchwood).

I'd also like to see more from the Time Lords, even if it's just back story. They can't just retcon something that's so important to the revived series, but I suppose they could come up with a way to bring them back. It would have to be well-explained, though.

As for the old episodes, they had many parts, sure, but it was because they were serial. They only ran 25 minutes at a time at the start so a 4-part serial wasn't much longer than a 2-part episode in the revival. Makes for confusing cataloging, though. There's 738 total episodes (including two television movies) that make up 192 individual stories. I think more 2-parters with season ending 3-parters would bring the new series more in line with the length of the stories in the classic series.

 You can reall spot a Russell T. Davies script from a mile off, can't you? Have you ever seen the Second Coming, also written by Davies with Ecclestone in the lead?

I was more yearning for the old days than seriously anticipating Ecclestone returning. My choice would've been Bill Nighy anyway.
