I've seen a few of Burton's movies lately and i am currently watching Edward Scissorhands and I must say, one thing that I enjoy about Burton's movies are the sets and props: the use of color really stands out. Everything seems slightly absurd as if it were a giant hyperbole.

i've seen Batman (first), Nightmare, Scissor hands, Big Fish and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and only liked really liked Big Fish. Sweeney Todd looks interesting though.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
I hated his version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. His movies all look great and he definitely has some great stuff, but for me it just sort of seems like there's just something missing in all of his movies that keep them from being great. Perhaps the focus on style subtracts something from the storytelling. I'm not sure. I like his movies a lot, though.

Burton is interesting in that he has some amazingly gorgeous and well-crafted movies and an almost equal amount of horrible cringe-worthy bullshit.
Based on Sweeney Todd I've come to think he's grown stagnant as a filmmaker (apparently he's doing Alice in Wonderland next... so much for brave, exciting artistic choices, Tim), but even at his most mediocre he's still better than a lot of what is being made today. But at his worst, he's pretty horrible.

yeah i completely agree. it seems like he's tapped out on original ideas as well. it seems like most, if not all, of the movies he's done in the past 10 years are either remakes or adapted from somebody else's material.
has anybody heard the story about him, kevin smith and the superman lives script?
