basically im wondering what you nice folks think about getting a jersey of a player who does not play for your team. can you be a hardcore [insert team name here] and get a jersey of an opposing player?
in my opinion, you can-- with a few ground rules. absolutely not if the player is on your archrival's (or even a significant rival really) team. i think sometimes there are players that are so good, and you can admire enough that getting there jersey is okay. i'm a hardcore dolphins fan, but i have a jerry rice jersey. i feel no shame. i don't like the dolphins any less.
i bring this up cuz i almost bought a beautiful barry sanders throwback yesterday and i got to thinking...

hey, as long as you don't wear it to your team's stadium. I hate seeing jerseys of teams that aren't playing in the stadium you are at even more than people wearing jerseys of players that aren't on your team anymore (not including past greats, but also including those who put duct tape on the jersey i.e. a willis mcgahee jersey that now says McLovin )

Well if its a HOF retired player i dont think anything is wrong with that. But if your a hardcore fan of a certain team you shouldn't get another players jersey, unless its a all-star/probowl jersey because if you get a all-star jersey you wont have another teams logo smacked on your chest.
That being said I'm a hardcore University of Miami fan and there is not a chance in hell i would ever get another schools jersey.

I don't thinks it's acceptable. Then again, I'm one of those people who think it's only acceptable to wear a jersey to an actual game where the team who's jersey you're wearing is playing.

I think a fair exception would be the conflict between the college and pro teams you follow. For example, if you're a Longhorns and Cowboys fan, I can see how owning a Titans Vince Young jersey would be acceptable (although a Longhorns Vince jersey would be far more appropriate).
I don't think this can fly with division rivals, however. In the above example, if you were a Longhorns and Texans fan, owning the Titans Vince jersey would not go as easy.
Of course, if you're a fan of a college team only that merely follows the pros with no allegiance (or vice versa), then all bets are off.

Well, I let my friend wear my Vick jersey to a game we just taped over the V with a big S so it read Sick.
I've been thinking of getting an LDT to protest the actual Vick draft pick I was so angry (even though in retrospect Vick provided some of the most exciting moments in Falcons History), actually I bid on one over the summer but lost. It just feels like cheating.
I love the way the Pats jerseys look, but I can't wear a Brady jersey... I'm an Atlanta Fan.... Hell I'd love to have Staubach, Brady, Montana.... but I think I could only hang them on the wall in reverance, never wear them especially not to a game...I'd consider the throwback Jessie Tuggle Jersey, but I like the new jersey's better anyway.
I just want to have one in every color of my team.
I've always wanted a 29 Smoltz Jersey, but I'd want it to be authentic and 300 bucks for a shirt I'll never wear is just too much.
The only time I really pull them out is to go to the game or to watch at home or at the bar.
It's odd I guess. I would never wear the Tshirt of the band at the band concert, but I don't mind the jersey of the team at the game... oh well.
