Listen to the greatest hits of the first tournament here
Rules of the tournament
Songs can be full band numbers, you accompanied on piano, guitar, drums, a capella, or even just instrumental. However you choose to interpret them
Eligible songs include everything in pearl jam's catalogue, anything from into the wild, and any live cover the band has played live at least 5 times. If you have questions just ask me.
The day before your match is up please pm me a link to your song. I will post it on the tournament ftp server. We may not have an archive (waiting to hear from jblagg), so if you like a song save it.
Voting generally lasts two days. the first 4 matches will have four songs each and you will vote for two.
This is a double elimination tournament. Voting is done in the thread, not via poll.

count me in
I was hoping we could do anything that any of the band members have had a part in... T.O.T.D, bayleaf, brad etc... But if not thats cool. I also don't think we should be allowed to submit songs that we did for the last contest...like I can't submit Angel, man of the hour, all those yesterdays etc...

I agree about no resubmssions. I'm also fine allowing anything from side projects if the contestents are. Chime in with your thoughts on that when you sign up for the tournament.
And someone pm bookshelf and jblagg

Don't know how to get hold of jblagg other than a PM, but I can contact Bookshelf through other means.
I don't know how people feel about Matt and the whole soundgarden thing...there's so much to choose from there, but for some reason it doesn't feel right to include all of that soundgarden stuff...not saying I'm against it though. Guess we'll have to wait and see what everyone else thinks

Yeah SG would be the only issue when allowing anything that any band members was a part of...still I would love to do an acoustic version of Mailman....

good point about matt and soundgarden, which I suppose is the best side project any pearl jam member has been in
I'd count solo stuff, brad, three fishes, rockfords, ToTD, mad season, and wellwater I suppose. I'm even a little sketchy on mad season since the big appeal of the project and its guiding force was probably more layne staley than mike mccready

I think if a PJ band memebr wrote the song no matter what group he was in at the time it should count.
sure...If he wrote it. I'm not sure what songs matt wrote for soundgarden, but I can find out and post a list of available SG songs
that would be helpful

Now that would fucking rule... I've been trying to accomplish this one for a long time, I'd love to hear someone else's take.

I guess I'm in. I'll just probably pull whoever I can together next weekend and cut a few tracks...nothing requiring too much thought or effort. How does song choice work? Does it matter if two people cut the same song, or anything like that?
McDonald's Happy Meals are actually an overwhelming 85% crippling sadness, 9% guilt, and 4% paralyzing terror. The remaining 2% is happiness, but after 20 minutes it turns into diarrhea.

You can't repeat the same song personally, so if you cover betterman in round I that's your betterman quota. But everyone in round I could cover betterman if they felt like it
I think I'm going to rule no on Soundgarden and RHCP as those were not pearl jam side projects, but were people's main jobs before Pearl Jam. However I'll still count Mother Love Bone, Green River, Bad Radio, etc. It is kind of arbitrary but since those bands never really mattered it is easier to think of them as side projects. Is anyone hideoulsy offended by this?

I use Cakewalk exclusively, these days. I've played with a lot of programs, from the free to the most overloaded versions of programs that I could never really afford (heh). I've also played in some pretty nice studios, not top shelf but the kind where you walk down the hall and say "Hey, who is that?" and it's fucking Gary Mallaber. My experience is that every single possible setup is totally dependent upon the quality of the engineer's ears. I played in the same studios in Lincoln that Bright Eyes used for most of Lifted, at the time they were going in to cut some things for Wide Awake, and it was great but expensive. I played at a place in Omaha that uses better equipment, but the engineer (who is from Electric Ladyland) just wasn't as good. I'm happier with the feel of things I get from my $2k mic and $600 pre than I was with the tens of thousands of dollars of equipment they had, just because the guys ears were dubious.
