what's the deal, is this bad water quality or am I just taking showers too long

but this happen in the summer too, at least where I'm at now. When I was living down south it wasn't this bad. Who knows.

Maybe the air's just dry from the AC in the summer. You could just get a cheapo humidifier. That's what we did, and it works the few days a year we actually use it.
