billboard.com wrote:
A couple weeks ago, band members got together for eight days to begin kicking around ideas for the next Pearl Jam album, although Ament cautions, "It doesn't mean there'll be a record our next month, but it's the start of the process. Sometimes it takes six months and sometimes it takes two years."

"It's just fun to play," he continues. "We've actually gotten really good at jamming with each other, so it's fun to get together and crank up the amps. We'll have (drummer) Matt (Cameron) throw a beat at us and try to come up with something. There's some new, different kind of things coming out of people."

"We're just getting into it, which is so exciting," guitarist Stone Gossard opines. "We have no idea where it's going but we have a lot of great little starts."

Band members have plenty on their individual plates as well. Gossard is working on his second solo album with longtime collaborator Pete Droge and guitarist Mike McCready is preparing for his annual benefit show for the Northwest Chapter of the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America, to be held May 3 at Seattle's Showbox.

I just found this on Seattlest:

February 1, 2008
Sonics Fans First to Know Pearl Jam's Prepping New Album

So the Sonics won last night. Kevin Durant scored a bunch of points and stuff. The biggest highlight, though, came from the seats, when Pearl Jam bassist—and die hard Sonics fan—Jeff Ament donned a headset for a chat with announcer Kevin Calabro.

Jeff commented on Durant's talent, voiced opposition to the Sonics' possible departure, and said our recent snow (quality) was stellar. Regarding his band, Jeff told Calabro, "We're gonna get together here in a couple of weeks and try and write some stuff."

And then the little ball bounced around, people talked about the absence of LeBron James, and Pearl Jam fans freaked out.

Hat tip to Billboard's Jaded Insider, who adds this anticipation-fueling nugget:

"Beyond the upcoming writing session, J.I. is in the know that Pearl Jam is going to play some shows before too long. One appearance may even be ready to announce as early as next week."

Much to Jeff Ament's chagrin, PJ may play live before the Sonics pick up their 12th win. And release a new album before the team knows where they're playing next season.

This is the best news I've heard in a while! Hopefully it does eventually amount to something.

I guess that I have no taste because I loved it.

No don't take it like that, if anything I feel a bit ignorant 'cos everyone seemed to love it! Joe public here bought it by the shed load...
I like the first three songs on it, but the rest was lost on me, whereas on Riot Act, there were only 2 songs i didn't like at all-Ghost&Cropduster.
Just if the'd go make an album with one theme in mind instead oftrying to cover all their bases they way they've been doing..halftempo rocker, full on rocker, quiter w/nice chorus, quiet w/build to loud. It's a pattern they are in and i'd like to see them break it.
Like a whole work of, i dunno...Strangest Tribe or to the other extreme Hail Hail's. They've been doing the songwriting via democracy & it isn't working for them i don't think. Get Stone back in the driving seat for a while.
Wishful thinking i guess.

I'm not offended. You were a good sport about the Rufus Wainwright/Judy Garland issue.

It's a perculiar thing about internet forums that people may be fans of the same things/bands, but not about the same facets of the subject & it's required that you gotta go at it to defend your POV. I've seen it here & don't get it at all, but i think as long as folks are respectful of each others opinions it works out cool.
Like ye don't hafta agree, but you don't hafta be insulting about it either ye get me? I wonder is that the sign of a great artist? that people can come together & disagree completely about the things that make them great, because by having divided opinions, the artist has a big spectrum..

thinkin aloud sorry..

I'd question his ability to compose a response.

That fuckin earpiece thing he has and he STILL manages to screw up what he's being told to say..

The Self titled is the best record in a decade.

Meh, I'm another one who was massively underwhelmed by "Avocado".

I love Unemployable and Big Wave.

I like Severed Hand, Parachutes & Army Reserve.

The rest can go jump for all I care.

Riot Act has grown on me massively over the last few years, the only songs I wish weren't on there are Green Disease & You Are.

Can't Keep, Ghost, Cropduster, Help Help & All Or None are little shards of genius, if you ask me.

As dime said, the most wonderful thing about conversing with other fans on a messageboard is appreciating how many different viewpoints we all have on the same band. I know there's a LOT of people who'd disagree with me but that's cool, we're all still fans of the same band.
