Warning, no Vedder involved here. Found from Stone Gossard myspace latest bulletin.

Rock Around Barack

Quote:
Stone Gossard and members of PJ spearheaded the recording of a new rendition of an old-school tune "Rock Around The Clock", cleverly changing the lyrical content to "Rock Around Barack".

Here's what Stone has to say about the recording:

"Hello everyone. This is a track I've been thinking about for a while. Rock Around The Clock was the first mainstream rock and roll hit in 1955 and it had a transforming effect on American music. At that time, rock and rhythm and blues music was traditionally only played on black radio. I am, by no means, an expert on the history of rock & roll, but this was a big deal. The rhythm of rock music and its energy were so overwhelming that traditional barriers of race and culture broke down with an enormous crash. So here's to new energy, rock and the breaking down of cultural barriers: Barack Around The Clock!"

Drums - Matt Cameron
Bass - Jeff Ament
Rock and Roll Piano - Boom Gaspar
Lead Guitar - Mike McCready
Vocals and Rhythm Guitar - Stone Gossard
Background Vocals - Barrett Jones

Recorded By Floyd Reitsma at Avast Classic
Mixed by Barrett Jones at his place.
Paid for by Stone

Listen to the song here

Enjoy!

makes Bu$hleaguer look like a masterpiece in subtlety

that one would play it when pissed, ok..but RECORD it? :shake:

(and it's not about politics, I'm a natural Barrack voter ..that is if I could vote in the US.. hell, I can't even vote here :? )

well, I guess that solves the question about who the band endorses ;) (I'm sure Ed does too.. but he had his brains working that day)

That's the biggest embarassment to ever come out of a PJ-related project...oh wait, I completely forgot about RITFW with Bono. So this is the 2nd most embarrassing thing. I mean, I totally understand where the sentiment is coming from (I would probably vote for him if i were American), but isn't it just the lamest way possible to deliver a message?

Who exactly is this meant for? Who is the target audience?

Noone. Calm down. They were probably in the studio, riffing around and writing enw tunes, starting rocking this one, stone started singing, next thing you know its recorded and he put it up on his myspace.

Nothing more nothing less.

Hilarious and fun.

not every song written needs to change the world or your life.

True, they can record whatever they want to record. I just think it's incredibly lame and they should've just kept the horrible play on words and the recording to themselves.

This is kind of Michael Scott territory isn't it?

I'm with Strat on this one. It's just a goofy, fun song that they're giving away for nothing. It's not like it's the first single off the new record or something.

This is the kind of stuff that brings a smile to my face when I listen, not because it's amazing musically or lyrically, but because you can tell the band is having a good time.

i liked that one 1 billion times better than "you're fired, get ready to go"
it has at least the merit of not taking itself seriously. a song of quality à la Immortality just wouldn't work for this, y'know.
