Let's talk about this great director.

I haven't really even made a dent in his filmography when you consider it's size, but I love what I've seen.

Ichi The Killer is spectacular.
His MOH episode "Imprint" is wonderful.
Audition is great.
Gozu is awesome.
Izo is mindfuck amazing.

Next I'll be checking out the Dead or Alive trilogy, I think.

Miike's films do demand a great deal from the viewer. His style is sometimes overbearing and detracts from the overall story. I found Audition and Gozu to moved unbelievably slow (Miike intended this) and culminated in a shocking finale. I feel the payoff in Audition was worth the investment but didn't like Gozu too much. However, Ichi is one of my favourite movies ever.

Miike is great. What I think many people miss about him is that he's actually pretty moralistic, albiet in an extremely bizarre fashion. His movies are almost never superficial.
