This guy is in the running for my favorite director. TCM played The Landlord last night (one I hadn't seen before), and it reminded me how much I like him. During the seventies he was one of the most consistantly great working directors, putting out one classic after another at a rate of about one every year or so. To me, his work really embodies what was good about the Easy Riders Raging Bulls set.

i caught that airing of the landlord too. i remember that as soon as the movie ended, i flipped through the channels and on vh1 classics they were showing that rolling stone's documentary that he directed.

besides harold and maude, is there anything else out there by him that i should check out?

Wow, I completely missed this post. Pretty much every film he made the 70s is great. Coming Home, Being There, The Last Detail, and Shampoo are some of his best.

I've been meaning to see Harold & Maude.

Be prepared to see indie/hipster quirky before indie/hipster quirky existed.

(That's not a good thing.)

I'll make my own judgements on it, thanks.

Just warning you. That was an unpleasant surprise when I watched it.
