Has anyone else given up on this company? I used to love Nintendo, but I think they are just about cooked. I bought my Gamecube the first day it came out. The life cycle of the system included, the worst real Mario game ever, the worst Zelda game ever, the worst StarFox game ever, and a very average Mario Kart game, and IMO the complete destruction of Metroid.
Beyond that, I bought a gameboy SP just to be able to play Final Fantasy Chronicles(The worst final fantasy game ever). Now Super Smash Brothers Me is wonderful, so is RE4, and the Monkey Balls(which will both be on XBOX soon with 40 more levels), but god Nintendo has taken a nose dive.
But it isn't just the Gamecube, the Gameboy sucks also. It is essentially a mini super nintendo with no new games. They come out with a couple of cool games each year, but the rest is, "Super Mario Advance $, Metroid Zero, Final Fantasy 1/2, Phantasy Star 1/2/3, Donkey Kong Country........." And now we have the DS, where we can look forward to playing the 10 good N64 games on a small screen, or playing metroid with a pen.
It is sad to see, but stick a fork in them. The new system is going to flop just like n64 and Gamecube, and the PSP is going to beat the living shit out of the DS. Who ever thought we would live in a world without Nintendo and Sega having a major system? I am guessing that in three years, that will be the way it is.
You raise a good point. I have thought about this before, how sad it is to see Nintendo not at #1. I think they just did it to themselves. Nintendo (The NES) will probably always be the most sold gaming console. It was ahead of its class and there weren't really any competitors (minus Atari). Competitors came (Jagaur, Turbo Grafix 16, Neo Geo) but Nintendo still reigned supreme. Then when SEGA came out, that was the IN thing. What did Nintendo do? Did they beat out the awesome 16 bit grafix of SEGA, no the just matched it with SNES. And despite N64, which I love, Nintendo has been behind ever since and even N64 is aimed at little kids which kind of pushes our interests away.
I think they really are beating a dead horse with all the GameBoys. I think DS looks awesome, like really awesome. But it took Nintendo years after SEGA's game gear to release a color handheld game. The released them in all those gay colors. The ironic thing was when GameBoy Color came out, you still couldn't play it in the dark, like SEGA's Gamegear which came out 6 years before (roughly, i think)
I will always be a diehard Nintendo fan. I had Gameboy, NES, N64... i skipped on the GameCube, but I am Nintendo for life

They need to come out with a better console for Nintendo that will still play the gamecube games. It should do everything Playstation and Xbox does, like play dvd's, cds, and should have a new exciting game to come with the system like Super Mario Bros did back with the original NES.

If they're surviving at all right now, it's because they're going for a different market than Sony and Microsoft. I've had every Nintendo system ever (excluding the handhelds) and consider myself a diehard supporter, but my gamecube has been collecting dust for some time now. I actually like the fact that it's smaller and cheaper than both PS2 and xbox, and just as efficient due to the fact that it doesn't play dvds (something I think all 3 will drop next time around). However, they're finally going to have a stake driven in their hearts by online gaming, which they're totally ignoring. Microsoft is going to rule the gaming world just due to xbox live, unless Sony comes up with something better on their next-gen system. But from what I've read Nintendo has no interest in going online now or with their next system and that is a fatal mistake, imho. It's too bad though, their games will always have a special place in my heart.

I used to go with Nintendo mainly because of Final Fantasy, but when Square left I went with the Playstation. Gamecube is just a little too kiddy for me, although I'd love to check out that new Resident Evil, and a few other games. Right now its a toss up between Xbox and PS2.

I'm not a blind fanboy of Nitendo but I love them for who they are. The first party games are top notch. The best for any system. They just need to branch out and get more third party stuff.

The overall NES sales have been destroyed by the original Playstation. The console went over the 100 million mark in May of last year. Also, the PS2 is selling at a faster rate than the PS1 did, reaching the 80 million mark in less time.

Go with the box dude. If not for San Andreas I would declare my PS2 completely useless. I play my xbox almost daily.

PS2 has the Xbox beat in every genre except for first person shooters. I feel sorry for you that you can't appreciate all the great games on PS2, except for San Andreas. You should expand your gaming horizons beyond the multi-million sellers.

You're wrong. Xbox is better than PS2 and I have both.

I have all the current generation consoles, including the Dreamcast, and the PS2 has the best games by far. Xbox has it beat in the graphics department and first person shooters only.

I have PS2 and my brother has the X-Box. Both have positives and negatives about them. And as Vs mentioned, PS2 has a great selection of games to choose from. So overrall, I prefer PS2. I do want to eventually get the X-Box simply because I don't like how some games are released for one playing format only. So in order to play what I want, I'll just have to buy the X-Box.
