My annual holiday in Denmark is looking good already . We had a couple of names, including Radiohead, and this was added today:
My Bloody Valentine takes Roskilde this summer The reformed noise rock band is announced along with At The Gates, Holy Fuck, Teitur and Yeasayer.
An old dream for many is finally coming true. After a lengthy hiatus the most wanted band on the British noise rock scene has suddenly switched on the amplifiers again – and one of their long awaited reunion shows will be at Roskilde Festival this summer.
MY BLOODY VALENTINE (IRL/UK) gave many music lovers some kind of unique, holy writing with the masterpiece Loveless. The combination of brutal and soothing songs excite as much today as they did in 1991 when the Irishmen released them. The band's music has been imitated by countless acts, but basically all fail at recreating the rush in the stomach as delivered by these pioneers. Now the band's original and beautiful guitar noise can finally be experienced live again.
More exciting music But we do not settle for this one much missed noise rock four-piece. Hopefully, we can brighten the day even more with this fabulous foursome:
AT THE GATES (S) is – as with My Bloody Valentine – a reunion of the kind that lots of fans only dared dream of. At The Gates contributed to the special Gothenburg-based melodic kind of death metal. The band plays one of few exclusive reunion concerts at Roskilde Festival. This chance of hearing a neo-legendary and style-breaking band should be at the top of any metal-lover's curriculum this summer.
HOLY FUCK (CAN) play instrumental electro-punk. The dirty sound has reached many people on cd or mp3 – but their music really stirs things up and gets a hold of the audience when playing live, which is the deeper purpose of the project.
TEITUR (FO) is one of the best singer-songwriters of the Faroe Islands. He is compared to Nick Drake and Damien Rice – you just have to add a little of Scandinavia's stormy and wet atmosphere to complete the picture.
YEASAYER (US) is one of the most promising new bands at the moment. They play alternative rock mixed with the foreign smells of global music. The band has an almost intoxicating positivity and vitality reminiscent of bands such as Gang Gang Dance and Animal Collective.

See you at Roskilde Festival ‘08, 3 - 6 July. Warm-up from 29 June at 08.00.
groetjes, Mirella

Yes, allright, I hope My Bloody Valentine plays Dour festival. But the thing is, I really need to see RATM & the Verve this year, and I fear I might need to go to Werchter to see them.

How can I not? Today's update:
Band of Horses and a heap of heavy boys Sensitive Band of Horses are added to the programme along with a row of tough lads.
One round of radio-friendly pop-rock with an aching heart. Four rounds of hard and heavy rock. Roskilde Festival's music programme is a world of contrasts, and this week's announcement is no exception.
BAND OF HORSES (US) play grandiose and beautiful rock music with a typically American big sound. They followed up their successful debut with Cease to Begin in 2007 – an album which cemented and expanded the band's popularity both in the US and in Europe. Fans of Neil Young and My Morning Jacket will nod in approval of Band of Horses' enjoyable guitar sound.
CLUTCH (US) turn affectionately towards the best heavy rock bands of the 70s and 90s, but they are no one-sided retro-rockers for that reason. The stoner heroes find room for intelligence, a glint in the eye and surprising experiments in the middle of the heavy guitar work.
ENTER SHIKARI (UK) is vibrating rock for people who are fond of Japanese manga looks, glow sticks and stroboscope lights. The dance-enthused new rave wave has gotten its first hardcore band.
JOB FOR A COWBOY (US) plays pitch black death metal with impressive technical skills and attention to details. The band is one of the most requested and mentioned of its kind in a long time.
PILGRIMZ (DK) are dirty like a mechanic's sweat cloth. Some critics have compared their rocking and rolling metal to a toughened up version of The Hives. But when listening to lead singer Max Vegas, you are also easily reminded of a Danish cousin to Pantera's Phil Anselmo.

okay, I have not much hopes left for R.E.M. the 4th of July is their only day off and I doubt they will use that for Roskilde... Anyway, 3 new bands today:
Quote:
Slayer is back The metal kings make up for last year’s cancellation. Battles and The Notwist are also added to the programme.
It is our great pleasure to welcome an old metal favourite back to Roskilde Festival.
SLAYER (US) has produced some absolute landmarks in fast thrash metal – the classics Reign in Blood and Seasons in the Abyss are just few of many highlights. The band certainly still knows how to deliver the goods live as was recently documented on the Unholy Alliance Tour DVD.
Progressive acts in alternative music But we do not settle for the four brutal song smiths. You can also look forward to two exciting and innovative acts from the alternative end of the genre spectrum.
BATTLES (US) take genres such as math-rock and post-rock and transform these often strict and grave expressions into their own unique, playful and motley melting pot. The result is genre-less and challenging, and at the same time it is almost danceable.
THE NOTWIST (DE) created an unforgettable experience on the basis of the masterpiece Neon Golden when they last visited Roskilde in 2002. The next album – which is released in May – should reportedly be radically different than its predecessor.

okay, a bit disappointing today: The Streets *again*
The Streets at Roskilde Festival '08 The cockney rapper is added to this year's line-up along with Isam B and Shape of Broad Minds.
The announcements of music acts for this year's festival are still at an early stage. Nonetheless, Roskilde Festival has already offered a wealth of music, especially in alternative and hard rock. This week Roskilde presents three treats in rap, R&B and hip hop.
THE STREETS (UK) is the first major act in British, dirty grime hip hop. Front man and mastermind Mike Skinner weaves rough beats and lazy reggae rhythms in and out of his accurate everyday stories. He visits Roskilde Festival with an experienced and well-playing backing band.
SHAPE OF BROAD MINDS (US) is made up of psychedelic hip hop mixed with rock riffs, chilled jazz and soul savour. The ensemble has five members – but only two physical musicians! The other rappers, singers and instrumentalists in the line-up are muti-split personalities hidden inside front man Jneiro Jarel.
ISAM B (DK) is taking a break form the Danish R&B/hip hop trio Outlandish. Instead, he delves into acoustic soul and R&B, which may remind the listener of Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder.
groetjes, Mirella

What I hoped for:
Quote:
Neil Young to Roskilde ’08 The legendary country rocker's only Scandinavian concert this summer is at Roskilde Festival.
Roskilde Festival is proud to present a living legend. An artist who can elevate rock music in a way that makes the hair on your neck and arms obey immediately. It has been seven years since his last visit, and the plea for a return from our audience has been countless in the intervening years.
NEIL YOUNG (CAN) sits enthroned at the very top along with Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan. But he is not only the delicate singer-songwriter with the trembling voice. His inclination for long jam sessions and mind-blowing guitar work has been like a recipe for a swarm of modern guitar rockers. Since the end of the 60s, the characteristic, thin voice has been around folk, rock, pop and even briefly flirted with electronics. Often with incomparable success – and always with the integrity intact when facing the music business that has tried to tame the unpredictable artist over and over.
Praised concerts Many Danish fans of the genius will still have last week's concerts in Copenhagen fresh in their memories. They sold out so fast that many – way too many – did not get tickets. But sometimes you get another chance, so now you just have to buy yourself a Roskilde Festival ticket.
A couple of quotes from last week's first concert in Copenhagen:
”Some concert experiences stick to the memory and are never forgotten. Where everything comes together, and even the seasoned listener is trembling as if it were the first time. As if music were something that was invented right there, on the spot. That was Neil Young's concert at Falkoner Centret.” – Torben Holleufer, GAFFA
”The 62-year-old Canadian and his band delivered a feat of strength which this critic has never seen or heard anything like before. Throughout the concert Neil Young excelled in changing from vulnerable and thoughtful storyteller to a roaring, rocking dinosaur. A combination that really captures the essence of Neil Young's back catalogue.” – Ditte Sig Kramer, Soundvenue
groetjes, Mirella
