I have a question about this show.
Sorry if it's 'too personal', but I'll just have a go at it:

This is a truly amazing shows. One of my favourites I've ever heard of Pearl Jam. But who is 'John'? Is it someone who died shortly before the concert or what?

During Release: "Oh dear John, can you see me now?"
Before Given to fly he talks about it being about someone who isn't amongst us anymore. And his emotions during Given to fly are so strong.
During Last Kiss he's also changing some of the lyrics.

(yes, this is the Speaking as someone who pahked the cah at the gahden - quarter rant show)

from what i remember reading online, eddie was given a letter at somepoint between the first and second nights. it was from the sister, whose brother had recently died. i have no idea if this is true or not though.

sorry i cant give you more help. great show though, it will always be one of my favorite's that i've been too.

During Last Kiss, he changes the lyrics to "Oh where could my brother be, the lord took him away from me". So that may be it?

thanks a lot for the help.

I guess I don't really want to know who died, it was just my curiosity. But it's still kinda weird to hear Eddie going so extremely emotional.

i have herd that story. never read it anywhere though. thats very interesting. if you remember where you read that, i would love to see it. Some one told me this story while i was at a college party at North Adams State. Just some random dude i started chatting with about pJ cause of his PJ shirt. We got to talking about bootlegs and shows when this one came up. He told the story like he knew the person that wrote the letters. I didnt totally believe him at the time, but the story always stuck with me.

I haven't heard that boot before, but I am almost positive that he says "John" on the Tokyo 03 boot also

the "john" references are abundant during the VFC shows too. eddie dedicated a bunch of songs to johnny ramone and put his name in a few songs too (release at boston 04 #1, man of the hour boston 04#2)

it was just in one of the online forums, so its very possible that it was a made up story, although from what eddie says during the show, it could have some truth to it.
