i had a valid passport.

Dog chewed it.

its still readable...juust chewed up a bit...

however, now i cannot locate it.

If i locate it can i just get a replacement for cheaper/faster or do i need to apply for a new one?

If i cant locate it then i hvae to go through the entire process. Do i absolutely NEED my birth certificate or will my social security card and drivers license do?

How soon do you need it?
Damaged Passport
If your passport is considered "damaged" then you will not be able to renew it. You will need to follow the lost, stolen or damaged instructions.

there are a lot of places that will take passport photos for you- and cheaply.
get your birth certificate fed-exed to you- it'll run you 15 bucks.
And if I were planning a trip to Italy May First, I'd pay to get the processing expedited- they usually take at least a month to process otherwise- I sent in my paperwork etc in July and received the passport in mid to late August...

we just did this for my wife and daughters. when we first went in they wouldn't accept my oldest daughter's birth cert because it wasn't the 8.5x11 size, so we wound up doing the full expedite on hers and it was here in less than a week. for the other two we did what they called an intermediate expedite which was less expensive - those showed up in about 2.5 weeks.

also with the birth certificate it's worth emphasizing that it has to be the original with the raised seal. no photocopies.

you could possibly contact the hospital you were born in and see if they can expedite a copy to your parents residence or possibly even to you.

passport photos you can get at Walgreens, CVS, or the Post Office. USPS is the cheapest for overnight delivery $16 flat rate, regardless of weight (unless you're like, mailing a car).

It's all a pain in the ass, really, but you've got time :)
I hope everything works out, Brian.

call and ask, or check online- and what good is it doing sitting around wondering, and being pissed- just do what you have to do and it'll be all set, right?
If you don't have your birth certificate, you can even request a copy from the hospital you were born in. I had to do that once a number of years back, and it didn't seem to be much of a hassle.

i'm pretty sure you need to have either your old non-damaged passport or a birth certificate.
