I came pretty close to perfecting my margaritas today. It's pretty much liquid jesus, here's what I did:
1/3 cup tequila (right now I'm using average priced Sauza Blanco, was like $50 for 1.75L, something with more bite would be better, probably a Gold type) 1/3 cup lime juice 1/4 of a ruby red grapefruit (very sour one) 5tbsp sugar
to make about 10-16oz depending on how strong you like it. 5 tbsp of sugar looks like a lot but it isn't sweet at all, it is still pretty sour which is how I love it, that much sugar just sort of brings it to the edge of being tangy instead of limey. i'd use 1/4 of an orange for a little bit sweeter and citrusier drink, and when grapefruit isn't in season.
oh i make mine frozen because i like to savor them, and on the rocks i drink it way too fast.
