Criterion is basically revered universally, but I'm curious to see which films they've released that people don't like. No, Armageddon and The Rock don't count.

From what I've seen (there are some others that I'm simply not interested in), I don't care for:

Le Samourai (Strong Dislike)
Seven Samurai (Strong Dislike)
WR: Mysteries of the Organism (Mild Dislike)
M. Hulot's Holiday (Mild Dislike)
Diabolique (Mild Dislike)
The Blob (Meh)
Cries and Whispers (Mild Dislike)
Wild Strawberries (Dislike)
The Lady Eve (Meh)
The Lady Vanishes (Dislike)
Au revoir les enfants (Meh)
Picnic At Hanging Rock (Dislike)
Peeping Tom (Meh)
The River (Strong Dislike)

I think it's quite brilliant, of course, you got to get into the tempo of the movie which is kind of slow. But once you are into it, it reminds of "the party".

I really found Seven Samurai to be mediocre.

Is that a Criterion? And if so, what the hell happened?

They were in dire financial straights, so they released Armageddon and The Rock to bail themselves out. A worthy price to pay, I would say.

I found it painfully unfunny and old-fashioned. Had a few pretty visuals, though, and the fireworks scene was great.

i couldn't stand sansho the bailiff. other than that, i didn't care much about

the royal tenenbaums
kurosawa's the lower depths and drunken angel
chasing amy
under the volcano wasn't so hot either
and throw in alexander nevsky as well

i could also say in the mood for love, but i was not really in a good mood when i watched it and plan on doing so again as soon as possible.

Of the few Wes Anderson flicks I've seen, The Life Aquatic is the only one I like. The Darjeeling Limited looks promising.

his movies feel like they were made just for me...not in a way that i would write or direct just like him, because i could never do either of those...but in the way he blends the humor and emotion works 100% in my mind

Chasing Amy and Short Cuts are pretty bad. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Mr. Hulot's Holiday and Mon Oncle are amongst the worst movies ever made.

I must say I strongly disagree with you. I understand that you can't get easily in these movies but to put them as the worst movies ever made, man !

I hate the Hulot character. Hate hate hate him. He's insufferable to me. Everyone tells me the movies are fabulously made but I can't get beyond my revulsion of Tati.

Also: I didn't care for Spellbound and Au Hasard Balthazar.

I defintely can understand your feelings about Hulot. When I first saw Hulot's holydays and Mon Oncle, I was 18-19 and I really didnt understand what was the fuss about these movies. I thought them unfunny and slow, with a lack of rythm that was killing the gags but I was at that time mainly interested in mainstream movies. As I grew up, my tastes in movies evolved and I rediscover Tati's work and find it now quite enjoyable. Perhaps you would too rediscover his work later. (And Traffic is a also a good movie from Tati)
