Just flagging this one for you US folks; I think it's out in December across the pond.
I enjoyed it, even though it's a bit of a slow burner and quite harrowing. A quintessentially British movie set in the WW2 era with an outstanding cast and some great directing.
And Keira Knightley can act! And also look for the most devasting use of the word "cunt" in cinematic history

I liked it. Two points: I HATED the character of the little sister. I guess that's good in a way in that the filmmakers were able to craft this character I feel so strongly about. However, it's bad because they don't exactly represent her as a badguy or punish her really. I hated her. Second point is that I found it interesting that they never actually said the c-word.
i watched this movie last night and now that i get what Juvenal meant when i first read this thread a while ago, this is a fantastic response.
like Juvenal said, it's a bit of a slow burner, especially the first 30-50 minutes or so don't seem to go anywhere specific. But then it speeds up and things are falling into place. It was a good movie though it's not one of those that you re-watch at least once a year. In fact, i'll probably never see it again. I really liked James McAvoy's performance which might finally convince me to see Last King Of Scotland.

I admire the heck out of this film from a film standpoint, from direction to cinematography to sound design ... the whole technical gamut. But the story left me completely cold. The whole thing is completely dour. I know it's a tragedy and all, but for me tragedy works best when there are some bright points during the story so the tragedy can be that much more tragic. This was 2 1/2 hours of human suffering and misery.
