As far as mainstream pop/rock i'd say Feist - The Reminder (cd) is my favourite. I love that cd.

this isn't exactly a song, and isn't exactly 2008 either, or am I missing something ?

I'd have to look into it, but off the top of my head :

Destroyer - Shooting Rockets
The Mars Volta - Goliath
Boris - Untitled/Bonus Track or whatever that last track is called
I agree on Wucan

I've only heard 3 2008 albums so far, but these are likely to remain standouts for the whole year.

The Mars Volta- Goliath
The Gutter Twins- Front St, Seven Stories Underground
Nick Cave- Jesus of the Moon

I can't recall hearing anything released this year. 'Cept that godawful new Pumpkins EP, and none of them tracks are my favourite anything.

Haven't heard enough of '07 pop to judge, but it would be damn hard to top.

I'd hardly classify anything on that album as pop, other than maybe 1-2-3-4.
