I agree, I loved this movie. I really like Ben Stiller. He's made some shitty stuff, but he has also been in some of the best comedies of the last decade. There's Something About Mary!!!!!!!

i love the movie, but it is very uncomfortable, especially the part near the end where they find out he painted the cats tail, if its on usa or somehting i will tend to change the channel untill that part is over :P

i think i find the 2nd one a bit less uncomfortable and a bit more enjoyable, but i havent seen it in a while

So we can only post positive things in movie threads? We're not allowed to say we don't like it?

it doesnt seem to be all that constructive, if you dont like somehting then dont even click on it, unless you just like being a dick. but i guess i could be wrong.

yah, unfortunately for meet the parents and something about mary - we got 10 other crappy movies to go along with them.

the first time i saw meet the parents i thought it was stupid. now i think its cultish. every scene has a funny line.

i love how they constantly call each other by their names.

Sitting across from Pam's parents when they first get to the house:

Pam: How's work Greg?
Greg: It's good....Pam.

:haha:

that's why i posted the thread...it was on cable and i cant turn the channel.

i thought the 2nd one was pretty silly and not up to par but i was expecting so much.

something about mary doesn't stand the test of time much anymore... i was really bored when i tried to watch it again. so i'm curious to watch meet the parents again, i'm sure it'll hold up better, cause it wasn't as much shock value as genuine comedy. i think ben stiller ultimately has the potential to be funny, but does so much shit we forget that he's actually talented.

i think owen wilsons character in meet the parents is the highlight for me.

Jack Byrnes: Greg's a male nurse.
Greg Focker: Yes. Thank you, Jack.
Kevin: Wow, that's great. I'd love to find time to do some volunteer work. Just the other day I saw a golden retriever, he had like a gimp, ya know I just wish I could have done something.
Greg Focker: Yeah, well I get paid too so it's sort of a everyone wins thing.

lots of great one liners from owen

Saying you don't like something is a throw-away. Everyone has their own likes and dislikes, so it contributes very little. Saying why you don't like something is insightful. Stevenvill would have had a much better post if he expained what it is that he doesn't like about Ben Stiller in this movie, why he isn't funny. Instead the post is just like 99% of RM posts and doesn't live up its potential.

i saw cable guy on tbs earlier today actually. there were some interesting scenes (the karaoke night scene is pretty surreal) but mostly i thought "yeah it really is as terrible as i thought it was as a kid when it first came out"

really i think it was one of the best "stupid comedies" around. i don't get how so many people called the cable guy bad, while a movie like wedding crashers which is a huge piece of shit has tons of people calling it one of their favorites.

though for these types of movies, i don't see anything beating dumb and dumber for a long time

Jack Byrnes: "My Mother", by Jack Byrnes. You gave me life, / You gave me milk, / You gave me courage. / Your name was Angela, / An angel from Heaven, / But you were also an angel of God, / And he needed you, too. / I selfishly tried to hold on to you, / While the cancer ate away at your organs, / Like an unstoppable rebel force, / And now we'll meet in Heaven, / And I shall see you / Nevermore, nevermore, nevermore.
Pam Byrnes: Dad, that's beautiful.
Greg Focker: That's amazing, so much love, and also so much information.

[in the car listening to "Puff the Magic Dragon"]
Greg Focker: Who'd have thought it wasn't about a dragon.
Jack Byrnes: Huh?
Greg Focker: Well some people think that 'to puff the magic dragon' means to... puff... smoke... a marijuana cigarette.
Jack Byrnes: Puff is just the name of the boy's magical dragon... You a pothead, Focker?
Greg Focker: No, I pass on grass always. Well not always.
Jack Byrnes: Yes or no?
Greg Focker: No, um, yes, um...

Greg Focker: Oh, dear God, thank you, you are such a good God to us. A kind and gentle and accommodating God, and we thank You oh sweet, sweet Lord of hosts for the smörgåsbord You have so aptly laid at our table this day, and each day, by day, day by day, by day oh dear Lord three things we pray to love Thee more dearly, to see Thee more clearly, to follow Thee more nearly, day, by day, by day. Amen.

Ok ill explain. Its not that i dont like the movie. Its ok and the wife and i usually watch it when it comes on tv but i dont feel that Ben Stiller does anything funny in it. The whole is movie is just stiller having really really bad luck and after awhile i didnt find it that funny. In fact at least to me it gets annoying. For me its more a knock on stiller then the movie because i feel that all ben stiller movies are the same its just him having bad stuff happen to him and we laugh(at times) at him not because of him.

Edit: De Niro is great in this movie
